Friends of the Gateway Region,
Being part of a community means holding some responsibility for our collective prosperity. As we shared last month, VGR was among the honorees who received Good Neighbor Awards for 2024 from Fort Gregg-Adams.
Earlier this month, I met with Maj. General Michelle Donahue, who was named commander general for the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command and Fort Gregg-Adams in late 2023. The leadership at the Army base seeks to expand activity beyond its physical footprint and into the neighboring communities.
This is welcome news for our region, as Fort Gregg-Adams is a major economic driver. We discussed opportunities to work more strategically and intentionally with the base, its programs and its people in future partnerships and development.
Relationship building plays a critical role in growing our economic vitality and attracting new investments. This expanding engagement with Fort Gregg-Adams is a testament to ongoing outreach with our military colleagues. For example, I credit the efforts of Board Member Becky McDonough in helping to launch the Capitol Region Military Alliance of Virginia (CaRMA-VA) earlier this year. This alliance was chartered with a disciplined approach to resilience, sustainability and quality of life – drawing on the unique strengths of every organization in our region.
And to learn more about one of the leaders for whom the fort is now named, be sure to watch “The Six Triple Eight” on Netflix. Released in December, the film stars Kerry Washington – you might recall her from ABC series “Scandal” – as Capt. Charity Adams and the 6888th Central Postal Delivery.
