We have good news and
not-so-good news for you!

First, the not-so-good-news: Our winter on-air drive begins on February 1st. The good news: You can shorten the drive.
For every $50,000 we raise by Friday, January 27th, we will shorten the drive by one day. We are counting additional gifts, renewals, new memberships, gift memberships – everything, in this attempt to lop off a day or two. This is your chance to minimize the interruption to our regular 100% classical music schedule.
We would much rather bring you the classical music you enjoy without interruptions. But 70% of our budget comes from listeners, so we must come to you for support.
Since we began giving our listeners the opportunity to shorten the drives by buying back a day or two of regular programming, we have eliminated 25% of our scheduled fundraising days. This successful joint effort to bring you more classical music is something we can both be proud of.

People sometimes ask who my favorite composer is, or what my favorite piece of music is. I don’t have a favorite anything, so I tend to go blank when asked these questions. There is simply too much to choose from, especially with classical music. I also tend to be in the moment with music. So, if I’m listening to Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 3 or his Symphony No. 2, those are my favorites. Listening to Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, I almost always decide that the Russians are my favorite composers until I hear Bruckner’s 4
th
symphony or Elgar’s Cello Concerto. We are always changing and evolving, and our likes and dislikes tend to ebb and flow, at least mine do. However, If I were faced with the prospect of having to choose only 10 recordings to take with me onto a secluded radio-less, iPod-less desert island, here are my choices…at the moment, and for the time being in no particular order...

Hosted by Wine World Beer & Spirits, Abingdon and Harford Community College Foundation, this year’s
Winter Wine Expo will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at APGFCU Arena, HCC, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please join us for an afternoon of fine wine, fabulous food, silent auction and music.
