Careers in Chiropractic:
Community Service, Giving Back for a Healthier World

Sherman College students consistently say they choose the chiropractic profession because they want to help people. For a chiropractor, one of the best ways to help others is to put them on the path to optimal health. As a chiropractor, your calling to help others extends far beyond the walls of your practice. Making community service a habit helps demonstrate you want to be a member of the community rather than just be in the community.

  • Your practice is more fulfilling when you are active in the community.
  • Serving others contributes to the overall health of the community.
  • Educational outreach attracts new patients you can guide to optimal health.

At Sherman College, we emphasize the value of service to the community. We back up that belief by providing a variety of opportunities for you to serve as a student and while you are an intern at our Chiropractic Health Center. Whether you conduct spinal screenings at a local health fair or give a talk about chiropractic at a community organization, your efforts not only support the health of the community, they also help you hone your skills and build your confidence.

Gelardi Student Center Construction Nearly Complete

Transformational change is happening at Sherman College of Chiropractic. These changes are attracting more students, better serving the students already enrolled, and increasing the campus’ capacity to accommodate the growth of the chiropractic profession. Community Service Club Hosts Fundraiser for Sheriff's Department

Committed to making a difference in the local area, Sherman College’s Kappa Chi Community Service Club recently hosted a fundraiser for one of Spartanburg County’s most utilized task forces, its K-9 unit.

Local brewery RJ Rockers hosted the event. The club sold raffle tickets for a Yeti cooler and for a Sherman package, which included four free visits to the Chiropractic Health Center and some Sherman gear. Money was also raised through RJ Rockers donating $1 per specific beverage that was sold that night. Students also represented their quarter or club during a cornhole tournament at the event.

The turnout was a huge success, and the community showed great support. “It is truly a blessing and an honor to have the K-9 unit serve and protect our community,” said Club President Craig A. Bryan III. The club raised $750 from the raffle and cornhole tournament.
Therapy Dogs, Pure Barre Workshop Help Students Reduce Stress

Paws2Care brought several therapy dogs to campus last month to help students de-stress and become more “PAWSitive.” This event was part of Sherman College's Student Affairs program focused on improving students’ mental health by reducing stress and anxiety.

In August, Student Affairs welcomed Pure Barre Spartanburg to campus. The organization offered a class to students to promote physical activity, mindfulness and a healthy lifestyle.

Sherman College students often juggle a heavy class load, a busy home life, a tight budget and more. Recognizing the need to help students reduce their stress and anxiety, the college offers several activities each quarter that focus on improving mental health.

Mobile FAFSA Form Now Available

Great news for prospective Sherman College students: Federal Student Aid recently announced that students now have two ways to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form; a redesigned fafsa.gov website and a mobile app. Federal Student Aid states that “these two improvements will make it easier for students and parents to access and complete the FAFSA form on the device that works best for them, with particular focus on improving the experience on mobile devices.”

The announcement, posted on July 24, further states that “parts of the fafsa.gov website have been redesigned so that the site pages will fit the screen size and shape of any device, including desktop or laptop computers and mobile devices, such as a smartphone or tablet.” The first portion of the website redesign allows students and parents more ease in completing the FAFSA form on a mobile device. Read more about key features of the redesigned website . The changes described above are only applicable to initial and renewal applications; additional fafsa.gov functions will be redesigned in subsequent phases.
Did You Know? iSherman is Transforming Chiropractic Education at Sherman College

Sherman is the only chiropractic college giving all students and faculty members iPads and access to the latest technology to transform the curriculum and enhance teaching and learning. The college rolled out its Apple initiative, iSherman, in 2016, and now it’s in full play. Every student on campus is given an iPad, fully loaded with everything from syllabi to e-books, at no additional tuition cost.

Simply put, the iSherman initiative is revolutionizing the delivery of the doctor of chiropractic degree. Aside from simple e-books and course materials, we are enriching the learning experience in other ways, particularly with video. Using a cloud-based system to host course lectures allows students to have 24/7 access to course content. This approach is of particular benefit to students who need a little more time to learn and review the material.

The iSherman Initiative allows Sherman College to transform the overall educational experience of our students, making it the chiropractic program of choice for those seeking an institution focused on their individual learning needs.
