Careers in Chiropractic:
Keeping Kids Healthier
with Chiropractic Care

Interest in pediatric chiropractic has skyrocketed as parents look for safer, healthier, more proactive ways to care for their children. Although many parents notice that pediatric chiropractic can have a positive effect on a variety of health issues, Sherman College’s approach is expressly focused on creating the physical environment for optimum overall health rather than treating conditions. Using chiropractic to keep the spine aligned and the nervous system working at its best provides the foundation for the body’s natural, innate ability to self-regulate and heal, which is crucial for a child’s well-being.

A growing number of parents are taking a proactive, preventative approach regarding the health of their children. Caring for the spinal structure of children can:
  • Set a strong foundation of health so kids grow up allowing their bodies to self-regulate and function optimally.
  • Save families money by keeping kids healthy and reducing or eliminating their reliance on allopathic interventions to treat health issues.
  • Ensure that optimal health in childhood leads to better health in adulthood.

Ambassador Spotlight:
Christian I. Ortiz of Trujillo Alto, PR

Why chiropractic:
After 21 years of being an asthmatic patient, chiropractic arrived in my life and CHANGED it completely. I want to give people the opportunity to have their lives changed forever like chiropractic did for me.

Favorite thing about Sherman:
My favorite thing about Sherman is the awesome family-friendly environment. Everyone knows each other! The desire of the entire faculty to help you achieve your success, and the desire of making you the best chiropractor you can be is amazing.

Construction of Gelardi Student Center, Renovations to Scallon Building Continue

Transformational change is happening at Sherman College of Chiropractic. These changes are attracting more students, better serving the students already enrolled, and increasing the campus’ capacity to accommodate the growth of the chiropractic profession. As you read this message, construction is active on campus. The new Drs. Thom and Betty Gelardi Student Center will focus on student success, including a new library, bookstore, campus café, large meeting space, student study spaces, lounge areas and more. Check out the progress made in April (video)! Want more frequent updates on the construction of the Gelardi Student Center? This page posts 6 new photos every 30 minutes!
Interns Complete
Clinic Challenge eXperience

Sherman College’s newest interns completed the Clinic Challenge Experience (CCX) last month on campus. CCX was designed to help students make a successful transition from classroom to chiropractic internship by sharpening their professional focus, energizing their passion for chiropractic and exposing them to success principles for practice. See photos from the event.

The ropes course on Sherman College’s 80-acre campus consists of a variety of challenges — using ropes, pulleys, walls, platforms, poles — all of which present students with the opportunity to use problem-solving skills and teamwork.

Facilitators, health center faculty members and teammates encourage participants to face and overcome whatever fears are blocking their ability to accomplish the tasks.
'Battle Stations' Inspire Healthy Competition in Upper Cervical Class

Assistant Professor Jaime Browning, D.C., ’09, loves a challenge. So when she adapted a military exercise called “Battle Stations” for her Upper Cervical Technique course three years ago, she was betting her students would be up for it – and they were. It continues to be a favorite class competition, as well as a great way for students to demonstrate their mastery of various techniques.

Browning drew inspiration from her own experience in Navy boot camp in Chicago 15 years ago. The final part of training involved being separated into teams, challenged with many scenarios, and put in positions to make difficult decisions, all while the clock was ticking.

While technique class obviously isn’t the same as combat, Browning says there are still some similarities. Read more about this activity on our blog.
From Newborn Patient to Student: Cutter Newton Follows Mentor in Chiropractic
by DC2B Charles Thomas Tucker, III, LMT

Children watch and tend to mimic everything adults do, whether those adults are parents, family members, or even random strangers. Sherman College Dean of Clinical Sciences Armand Rossi, D.C., had no idea that the efficient care, family atmosphere, spinal checks and gentle adjustments he provided to a particular newborn under his care would later introduce a new idea in that child’s life.

Rossi would often see two or even three generations of patients in his practice under regular care. One such patient was one-day-old infant Cutter Newton of Marietta, GA. Rossi arrived just after his birth and delivered an adjustment that would be the start of Newton’s journey into the world of chiropractic. Read the full story on the blog.
Did You Know? Evidence-Informed Curriculum and Practice

Sherman is the only chiropractic college making a focused effort to shape its teaching in the area of evidence-informed curriculum and practice. Christopher Kent, D.C., J.D., is responsible for overseeing and directing the initiation and collaboration of projects and studies with faculty, students, and staff that increase the quality and quantity of evidence applicable to the curriculum and practice of chiropractic, with a special focus on the unique approach to the science, art and philosophy of traditional/principled chiropractic.
