Gelardi Student Center Opens
Sherman College of Chiropractic celebrated its commitment to Spartanburg and to principled chiropractic education during the opening of the Thom and Betty Gelardi Student Center February 8 on campus. About 600 guests attended, with many college alumni and supporters watching via livestream on the college’s Facebook page. The Gelardi Student Center underscores Sherman College’s focus on student success and includes the library, bookstore, campus café, large meeting spaces, student study suites, lounge areas and more.
Sherman College founder Dr. Thom Gelardi spoke during the ceremony of the commitment of students throughout the college’s history. “The success of Sherman College’s many events and undertakings was – and still is – due to students volunteering many hours of service and time to the college and its mission,” he shared. “It is indeed a great honor, then, to have our names on this building – a building with a goal of serving the students of Sherman College, the future of the chiropractic profession.”

Registration Opens Soon for Showcase Sherman Weekend
Showcase Sherman Weekend is an event for prospective students to explore chiropractic and Sherman College and is designed to ignite students’ passion for leadership as well as help them begin their pursuit of becoming the next generation of DCs2B.

Sherman College will host its next Showcase Sherman Weekend during Lyceum on May 3-4, and registration will open soon.
Guests at this special Showcase event will enjoy the college's annual homecoming weekend and explore Spartanburg each day after sessions end.

Reading and spending time with my family, and especially with my dog.
Why Chiropractic:
I realized that my only purpose is to serve and connect with people. I am 100 percent sure that chiropractic chose me to spread the word of our philosophy to the world. Helping people to heal from above down, inside out, without any invasive procedures is my dream come true. I have found that chiropractors are here to help the body function at 100 percent by removing the interference throughout your spine.
Favorite thing about Sherman: My favorite thing about Sherman is the fact that everyone cares about our success [and helping us] achieve our goals.

Student Scholarship Spotlight:
Debora Marques of Portugal
Sherman College
’s
financial aid packages make us one of the most affordable chiropractic colleges in the country. Nearly 98% of students receive some form of financial aid.
Sherman College student Debora Marques is one of those students; she was recently awarded two prestigious scholarships for the winter 2019 quarter. Marques is in her 11th quarter at Sherman College and expects to graduate this December.
Marques says the scholarship assistance she has received has been extremely helpful as she prepares to graduate. “The H.T. Hughes Medal 75 and the Carol Hall Scholarships are a huge blessing on this journey to finish my education at Sherman,” she said. “Soon graduation will be approaching, and it feels bittersweet. I come from beautiful Lisbon, Portugal, and I can’t wait to start practicing there. Chiropractic in Portugal has grown more in the last couple of years than ever before, and I’m excited to be part of this change.” The photo above shows Marques on her first day of classes at Sherman College.

Sherman Interns Provide Chiropractic Care to SMC Athletes
Sherman College and its neighbor Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) have a collaborative agreement where student interns and faculty members from Sherman provide chiropractic care for the benefit of SMC student athletes.
Our interns now have 90 active case files for our SMC clinic. This means we see nearly 34% of the student-athlete population at SMC.

Sherman Students Compete
in Spartan Sprint
About 30 Sherman College students took part in an intense Spartan Sprint in December. Held in the area surrounding USC Upstate, the race was about 3.5 miles and included more than 20 obstacles and lots of mud.
“We more or less stuck together,” said student Jacob Niergarth of the experience, “and we had an absolute blast!”

Sherman College Community Collects 500+ Toys for Tots
Pi Kappa Chi chiropractic fraternity, Lambda Kappa Chi sorority, and the Community Service Club held a successful Toys for Tots drive on the Sherman College campus during the holiday season. The organization collected 516 toys, an increase over last year’s 437 toys. In fact, the number of toys collected exceeded the student population (422) on campus! Students, faculty and staff participated in the drive, with assistance from Anytime Fitness staff and patrons as well.

Sherman College graduates have been educated at the preeminent chiropractic college in the world.
