Beloved Community
Beloved community, it feels so good to be back amongst you
all. The past month was restorative, as well as energizing as  I traveled to join other Unitarian Universalists in Spokane,  Washington, for our annual conference. And, it was  challenging for me, as it was for many of you, as I learned  more and more about the dire situation people of all ages  (including babies and toddlers) are experiencing as they  are detained in camps around the country due to immigration.

Since reading reports of lawyers who went there first-hand,  I have struggled with my feelings of powerlessness -  and sought out ways to help change this world. If you are interested, here is a link  to ways you can help make a tangible difference for people in need of support during a time of mistreatment and abuse by our government.

On Friday, July 12 - there will be events across the nation to rally people's attention to this issue. Bloomington will host a rally at the Monroe County Courthouse at 7 pm and I urge you to show up! I will join the UU Service Committee and clergy of all faiths in El Paso, Texas, as we bear witness to a camp that is - in part - keeping people outside under a bridge without shelter or running water. I plan to hurry back and join Rev. Barbara Child in worship on that Sunday to give a brief update.

In the meantime, join me in thanking Rev. Mary Ann and Rev. Emily for carrying a heavier load while I was gone, and send good thoughts to Rev. Mary Ann as she takes some time away in July (after we lead worship this Sunday)!

   Scott
Reverend Scott McNeill
