A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT / CEO

A Note from the President/CEO

We love showing off the beautiful Sebastian River Area! With the launch of our new video, we have added to the Chamber tool kit, and we are spreading the word! If you haven't seen it on Face book, its posted on our website, and there's two! The first one tells the story, and gives you six minutes of awesome video, with state of the art drone footage, and beautiful scenes of all of our natural resources. If you're the type that scrolls through things, and have a shorter attention span we have a one minute version to suit your needs. We've got it all here in Sebastian. Kudos to Nicole Holbrook, Tourism Director, who led this project and produced a fabulous result. We urge you to share it with your friends and family, particularly if they don't live here!

The Sebastian Blue Water Open, produced by the Exchange Club of Sebastian, and twenty five years in the making, held another successful event last month, raising charity dollars for the prevention of child abuse. Congratulations to all of the volunteers how dedicated their time and effort for this very important event.

The Sebastian River Area will be highlighted on CBS, six weeks in a row, with the broadcasting of Major League Fishing Tournament that was held in west Indian River County. This time the County Chamber took the lead, creating and collaborating with our Chamber, the cities of Sebastian and Fellsmere and Indian River County to bring this tournament to our area. The entire crew of fishing champions, crew, cameras, boats, etc. took over Capt. Hiram's for a week, and fished the lakes of Garcia, Blue Cypress and the Stick Marsh. The first show is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, at 2 p.m. on CBS and will run for six weeks.

Because it's June, it hurricane preparation time. We added a tab on our home page of Sebastianchamber.com, where you will be able to find any and all current information about hurricane preparation, and if there is an event, recovery info will be posted as well. It's always good to have a plan!

You have probably received your ballot for the Chamber Board of Directors elections, and we have tried to make it simple. We do want to thank all of the chamber members who stepped up to the plate to help lead the Chamber, and appreciate their commitment of time and talent!

Two events coming up this summer, the Annual Fourth of July Celebration and the eagerly anticipated Grill Out Night! Looking forward to both traditions in Sebastian in the dog days of summer and our community spirit shines bright. There's a lot of new people in the area, so they will be treated to summertime fun, Sebastian style! Grill Out Night will feature a local fruit, mangoes. Or peaches for those of you who haven't yet developed a taste for mangoes! Either way, we will be getting the grills out in August, for a Friday night celebration.

Our Chamber luncheon in July will feature the annual message from Indian River County Commissioner Susan Adams, District one. This tradition has been going on almost twenty years, with the District One Commissioner coming to us to update on all County wide issues, projects and plans. We look forward hearing from the Commissioner!
Have an awesome Fourth of July and a nice summer!

HERE FOR YOU CONCIERGE

Helping people has always been part of who Beth and Tim Rohrer are, with their careers, and lifestyle. Beth's experience, as an RN, includes trauma care, senior housing, home care services, and nursing administration. While Tim's expertise in logistics has entailed the coordination and transport of commercial and personal property, assisting persons with relocation, while also coaching and training local teams and individuals, as a Personal Trainer and Strength Coach.

Over the years their careers, and experience as business owners, have afforded the opportunity to see that no matter what the position, the title, the calling or career; everyday demands, often demand more than there is to give! Demands, within personal circumstances, or other people in our lives, can become overwhelming when we don't know who, or where to turn to.

Here for You Concierge has been established to provide a place to turn to, serving persons in the gaps of life, with planned and unplanned events. Whether it be the day to day "to do list", an upcoming move, seasonal support, transportation needs, peace of mind with pet care, or other services, their support is designed for their customers, and with their customers, with detail in mind. Here for You Concierge is fully licensed, and insured with complete background checks, and additional certifications in aging services.

When they are not providing concierge services, Beth can be found cooking, writing, or enjoying the waterways of the Treasure Coast, while Tim enjoys golfing, beachcombing, and part time work at the Florida Tech Challenge Course, as a facilitator/coach.

Allowing Beth and Tim to help in a small way, may afford a big relief, or the peace of mind you may be looking for.

JULY TOURISM SPOTLIGHT
Skydive Sebastian

So, You Want To Make A Skydive
Graduation... Reunion with friends or family... Bachelor/Bachelorette Party... Bucket List... Just for Fun... Do something that will transform your life and leave you with a memory that will last a lifetime! Come by yourself or with a group. We'll take you on a stunning round trip adventure from zero to 14,000 ft over the Sebastian inlet and the east coast of Florida, unlike you've ever known before! Skydive Sebastian is a world renown drop zone that offers a life changing experience and a way to see the impressive memorable views of Sebastian, the Lagoon, Ocean, and the Sebastian Inlet.

We Are Skydive Sebastian
Over 35,000 jumps are made over Sebastian each year. In 2017, over 3,100 people traveled from all over the globe to experience a skydive for the first time in our skies. An impressive 130 students joined our AFF course to earn their wings, and learn to skydive on their own. We also have a multitude of licensed jumpers, teams, and military jumpers frequent our airport. Throughout the years, Skydive Sebastian has become a premier drop zone in the United States, gaining popularity with our unbeatable views, and friendly environment.

Skydive Sebastian is proud to be called "home" by World Champions in Canopy Piloting, Vertical Formation Skydiving, and Formation Skydiving. Many events and skills camps where skydivers gather from all over the world to jump, learn, and share knowledge are hosted by those elite champions at Skydive Sebastian.   This September, Skydive Sebastian will host the United States Canopy Piloting Nationals, attracting competitors from around the world to compete against our US competitors. Canopy Piloting Nationals is a fantastic event for spectators, as all of the action happens just above the ground.

But Darling, What if You Fly?
While the idea of "jumping out of a perfectly good airplane" may be daunting, don't let your fears hold you back! In fact, most first time tandem students are surprised to find that there is actually no falling sensation. The reason for that is due to good old fashion physics. When exiting an aircraft in flight, you are already traveling at the same ground speed as the plane. Because of that, you're accelerating from about 90 mph to 120 mph, which only takes about 3-5 seconds! It is similar to accelerating in a car... only much, much faster!

Let me guess, you're afraid of heights. Funny enough, so are most skydivers. However, you'll be in free fall at 14,000 ft- about two and a half miles above the ground. We promise that there's nothing up there but air, freedom, and one of the best views you've ever seen. Free fall has no obstacles, only pure bliss. With adamant adherence to the highest safety standards, top of the line equipment, and some of the most skilled and experienced instructors in the industry, you can jump with the confidence of knowing you're in the best of hands.

The Sky Isn't A Limit - It's A Playground!
In fact, the exhilaration felt by making a skydive is transformative. It isn't just the jump itself that leaves a lasting impression. We often hear that students excel past their personal boundaries and expectations of fear and self doubt to make the jump, and suddenly realize just how much more they are capable of. There is that epiphany, that life can be extraordinary, and that the sky isn't a limit- it's a playground! In so many ways, your skydiving experience will continue to inspire you long after you've left the drop zone.

Grill Out Night - Mango Madness!

Summer is bringin' the heat and so is the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce! It's time to get fired up about a sizzling summertime event ...We're talkin' about Grill Out Night!

This family-friendly event invites folks to get out and visit participating businesses during the notoriously slower months of summer. It is designed to spark activity and interest in our local establishments and provides a perfect opportunity for retailers and restaurants to extend some customer appreciation. Many locations will be providing music, face painting, raffles, and other entertainment. Summer sales and specials will also be available at most locations and event-goers will be able to savor deliciously grilled nibbles as they stroll from business to business.

Speaking of food - we can't forget to mention "mango-madness". What would a summer time event be without this perfectly refreshing fruit?! Businesses are encouraged to incorporate mango into their treats and drinks. From salsas and salads, to beverages and desserts, there will be something marvelously mango for everyone to enjoy! It's a fun way for businesses to get creative with their offerings.

All the details will be available in the Press Journal the day of the event, including a list and map of participating businesses and a brief description of what each location will be offering.  Information will also be available to pick up at the Sebastian River Area Chamber office, online at SebastianChamber.com and facebook.com/sebastianchambervisitorscenter.

Save the date and mark your calendars for Friday, August 10th from 5:30-8pm (rain or shine) and "greet the heat" with this summer's hottest community event.

If your business or organization would like to participate and take advantage of the hundreds of people that hit the streets for this event, registration forms can be found online at SebastianChamber.com or you may call the office at 772-589-5969.
