Ramping up Youth Involvement in the Community
In 2018, a committee of motivated high school students began working on an identified youth issue in DeKalb County. "Lack of youth involvement in the community" is the issue they worked to address.

COVID-19 Response Grants In Action
In April 2020, over $200,000 was awarded to 23 organizations in round one of the DeKalb County COVID-19 Response Grants. What did these grant dollars enable the organizations to do?

New Egyptian Theatre Fund Seeks Operational Support
On Friday, July 17, the historic Egyptian Theatre will make a live announcement on Facebook for a new campaign featuring the Egyptian Theatre COVID-19 Relief Fund, a pass through fund at the Community Foundation. This special campaign has been developed by the Community Foundation and the Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund.


Since March, more t han 50 events have been cancelled or postponed impacting more than 20 local groups including dance studios, non-profit organizations, and school districts. The Egyptian Theatre is looking to the community for support to recover from this shutdown.

$89,352 Awarded in Support of Music Education 
The Community Foundation is pleased to report that $89,352 in spring Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Grants benefited a total of 28 nonprofits and community organizations across the greater Chicagoland area.

Carani Receives Harold P. Wells Scholarship Award
Congratulations to Cameron Carani, recipient of the Harold P. Wells Scholarship.  Cameron is a 2020 graduate of Sycamore High School and a student pilot at the DeKalb airport.

Upcoming Webinar on Leadership
Join G. Joseph Mitchell and others for a well rounded discussion on leadership . Attendees will learn how they can lead regardless of their position in an organization. This Zoom webinar is from 9:00 - 10:30 am on Thursday, July 22.

G. Joseph Mitchell is senior pastor at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and serves as vice chair on the board of directors at the Community Foundation.

Fall Grant Opportunities
Nonprofit and public sector service organizations are highly encouraged to apply for a fall 2020 Community Needs Grant or Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Grant.  Application deadline is September 1 for both grant programs.
