Big Crowds for World Refugee Day
Supporting refugees locally & worldwide
On June 20, more than 400 St. Louisans walked for refugees on World Refugee Day. (Far right) Blake Hamilton, IISTL VP, leads the crowd on its walk along South Grand Blvd. Photo by Wayne Crosslin/International Institute
2018 World Refugee Day celebrations were the biggest and best. On June 19, Carlos Suarez of the United Nations Association, Alla Gonzalez Castillo of St. Louis Public Schools, and Blake Hamilton of the International Institute, shared the refugee story with guests at IKEA. On June 20, the Institute sponsored a Bagels & Coffee Session, which drew more than 120 guests who through interactive exercises explored the refugee experience and its challenges. In the afternoon, a crowd walked in solidarity with refugees from the Institute to South Grand Rooster, which hosted a fundraiser for us. The following evening, Nine Network/POV/PBS co-sponsored a showing of Last Men in Aleppo, a 2017 award-winning documentary of the White Helmet volunteers of the Syrian Civil War.

350 More Festival Volunteers Needed
Ensuring 2018 Festival of Nations is best ever
Annually, Festival of Nations attracts a diverse array of ethnic troupes presenting dance and music. Japanese Taiko (drums) is among our most popular. Photo by Sylvester Jacobs/International Institute.
Volunteers are a valuable asset to ensure that the Festival of Nations is a success each year! We still have 350 volunteer spots to fill at this year's event, scheduled for August 25 and 26 in Tower Grove Park. Round up friends and family. Spend a few hours making one of St. Louis' favorite summer festivals a success! Our greatest need is for Sunday afternoon volunteers.

Providing a pathway for refugees to St. Louis
Liberty Quest highlights the difficult journey that displaced families from Afghanistan and throughout the world have been making for decades to St. Louis. Once in St. Louis, we provide resettlement services, English classes and interpretation, access to available health care, and job preparation and referrals to refugees. With your support they become prosperous new Americans.
