2018 World Refugee Day celebrations were the biggest and best. On June 19, Carlos Suarez of the United Nations Association, Alla Gonzalez Castillo of St. Louis Public Schools, and Blake Hamilton of the International Institute, shared the refugee story with guests at IKEA. On June 20, the Institute sponsored a Bagels & Coffee Session, which drew more than 120 guests who through interactive exercises explored the refugee experience and its challenges. In the afternoon, a crowd walked in solidarity with refugees from the Institute to South Grand Rooster, which hosted a fundraiser for us. The following evening, Nine Network/POV/PBS co-sponsored a showing of
Last Men in Aleppo, a 2017 award-winning documentary of the White Helmet volunteers of the Syrian Civil War.
