Submit an Abstract for our Residuals and Biosolids Conference
NEWEA's Residuals Management Committee and NEBRA invite the submission of abstracts for its upcoming online technical conference! The Northeast Residuals & Biosolids Conference is going Virtual for 2020! Join us online to learn the latest trends in the management of biosolids and residuals. This event is a “must” for all those involved in the challenge of managing biosolids and residuals in the Northeast. Submissions are due July 31, 2020.

PFAS Awareness Campaign
NEWEA and the Northeast Biosolids & Residuals Association (NEBRA) recently collaborated to produce a campaign to raise awareness about PFAS, and we are now looking for support to distribute campaign materials.

NEWEA and NEBRA’s PFAS campaign is an awareness and action campaign seeking to gain local, regional, state, and federal support for research on PFAS in our environment. The campaign uses clear, concise language and imagery to convey to our audiences, which include residents and leaders in the six New England states, that PFAS are present in many products we use every day and research is needed to understand its presence, effects, opportunities for mitigation, and steps needed to reduce its existence.

Our prepared campaign content includes buck slips, a one-page informational sheet, and posters. The buck slips and one-pager have the option to customize the text and add a partner logo.

NEWEA and NEBRA will be rolling out the campaign to our members very soon. There are suggested donations, quite reasonable, to access and use the materials. Please contact Mary Barry and/or Janine Burke-Wells with any questions or for additional information.
Utility Employment Needs Survey
The New England-wide WaterWORKS! Committee is looking for your feedback!

The Committee was established a year ago to help evaluate staffing needs for drinking water and clean water utilities across New England as we face upcoming retirements in the near future. The WaterWORKS! Committee is comprised of state and regional drinking water and clean water associations, utilities, and primacy agencies who are all working together on one common mission.

WaterWORKS! will become the central resource in the six New England states to recruit, attract, and develop the drinking water and clean water workforce for the future. Doing so assures continuing public health, protection of our water resources, and of our environment by filling all roles of the profession.

The vision of the WaterWORKS! Committee is to be developed as a local extension of the American Water Works Association and Water Environment Federation's program, "Work for Water." In doing so, WaterWORKS! will enjoy the national exposure of this important initiative while facilitating opportunities for careers in water locally in New England.

The next step in the WaterWORKS! Committee's initiative is to obtain feedback from drinking water and clean water organizations from all six New England states. We are asking that you please take a few moments of your day to assist us in obtaining data.

Please note, that due to the number of associations and organizations involved in this effort, and overlapping memberships, you may receive this email from multiple entities. Note we only need ONE response per organization/utility.

Reviewers Needed for Update to Nutrient Removal (MOP 34)
The Water Environment Federation is planning a revision of the first edition of Nutrient Removal (MOP 34). The first edition, published in 2010, covers environmental and regulatory issues and provides an integrated approach for combined nitrogen and phosphorus removal, including details on ammonia and dewatering liquors treatment.

This new (2nd) edition will update the manual to reflect current practice and understanding of the topic. At this time, WEF is welcoming recommendations for updates, changes, additions, or cuts to the last edition in order to guide the revision effort.

If you are interested in participating as a reviewer for this project, please contact Brian Hill at bhill@wef.org for the full text of the book and the review template. Review comments are due by July 17. Please note that we cannot accept any comments that are submitted after the July 17 deadline.

A PDF of the frontmatter and preface from the first edition is provided in this link MOP 34 Frontmatter and Preface.
If you have any questions about the publication or the review deadline, please feel free to contact bhill@wef.org.
NEWEA's Charitable Giving Task Force is looking for your feedback!

This Task Force, which was created at the 2020 Annual Conference, works on initiatives related to raising funds to support NEWEA's mission. This includes direct donations online, making a Qualified Charitable Distribution, and leaving a legacy fund.

At this time, the Task Force is looking to hear stories from NEWEA members about how the organization has positively affected your education, career, and/or community. Did you receive a NEWEA-sponsored scholarship that helped to support the completion of your degree in engineering or environmental studies? Have you been mentored by an experienced professional who provided valuable advice about navigating your career? Did networking at a NEWEA event lead to a new job? We want to hear about it!

You can also support NEWEA and Charitable Giving Task Force initiatives by making an online donation!

Donations support a variety of established and new programs and initiatives, including student scholarships, our Veterans Workforce Development program, and public outreach and education. As a 100% independently funded nonprofit, our continued success comes in part from supporters like you.
