CURRENT ENDEAVORS:
I transferred to UC Davis, where I graduated with a B.A. in International Relations with an emphasis in Peoples and Nationalities in Africa and the Middle East. I then taught English in Japan for a year through the JET Program. I am currently earning my J.D. at UC Hastings College of the Law. This summer, I am clerking for API Legal Outreach, a non-profit organization that provides legal representation, social services, and advocacy for marginalized people in the SF Bay Area. I am primarily involved with the Housing Project, which works to help tenants fight against unjust evictions and to support those who are impacted by the housing crisis.
MEMORABLE CHABOT MOMENT:
My time serving as the Community Service Director for AGS Honor Society was one of the most meaningful moments of my life. It was there that I took my first steps toward leadership and community organizing. I was able to work with my fellow AGS members to start Care Packages for Compassion to provide care packages to the homeless. I loved that students and staff in the Chabot community pitched in to support fundraising events, donation drives, and care package distribution events.
ADVICE FOR FUTURE ALUMNI
:
Community college is a great place to figure out what’s the right path for you. Dabble in every subject that interests you. Leave no rock unturned. If you do the things that you love, you will find a path that is meaningful to you.
These are tough times! No matter what you’re going through, know that you
can
survive this moment—take it from someone who overcame housing instability and homelessness while attending community college. Also, reach out to someone if you need help. More people are rooting for you than you think.
