We are pleased to announce that we have finalized the arrangements for our Fall 2019 trip with The Grand Tour … it’s a
9-Night stay in “La Belle France”
…
4 nights in Avignon
plus 5 nights in Paris
, staying at the same wonderful hotel in which we stayed 5 years ago … we're told it's been refurnished recently, though it was lovely back then! We head overseas
from Dulles Airport on Friday, Nov. 15th and return on Monday, Nov. 25th
, so you won’t have to miss out on your plans for Thanksgiving back home.

If you decide to join us in France this Fall,
contact The Grand Tour at 1-800-727-2995, as soon as you can!

The word “genius” is bandied about a lot these days. It seems that whenever someone dies, somebody calls that person a Genius. This is especially true in the world of popular music, but is certainly not limited to it. Whether it’s a rock musician who sets himself apart from his peers by his actions or an artist that specializes in painting big orange squares, the word “genius” often shows up.
The dictionary (remember those?) says a genius is “one of exceptional intelligence or ability in a specific or general way.” Or words to that affect. Well, that covers a rather broad range. There are some historical figures that we consider geniuses that would probably get no argument from anyone. Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo, J.S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Shakespeare (if he REALLY wrote all those plays), Einstein, and the list goes on. What makes these individuals geniuses?

This week Mary and Jonathan discuss a New York Times article by Eric Asimov (Above Left) published on June 19, 2019 entitled ‘It’s Time to Rethink Wine Criticism’. Using the occasion of Robert Parker’s (Above Right) retirement, Asimov discusses the role of the wine critic and how changing the way we write about wine might be helpful. This is in no way a slight to Robert Parker’s invaluable contribution to the world of wine for the last three decades plus. It is frankly inconceivable to think of wine in America without him...

Here we are in summer, where there is somewhat of a dearth of goings-on in music. We had things to look forward to, but alas… anyway, there are things happening this month, so take the time to check them out!
