Academy offers support to governor and health director
|
The Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati Council has
sent a letter to Governor Mike DeWine and Director of Health Amy Acton, MD, supporting their efforts during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The letter expressed the local medical community’s backing of attempts to keep Ohioans healthy and offered the Academy’s assistance in continuing these endeavors. It also acknowledged the professional and personal stress that resulted from these efforts.

Renew for 2020 … the Academy needs members like you to remain strong, effective, and influential
Because of COVID-19 and the issues surrounding it, the Academy chose to suspend its dues collection follow-up efforts, normally done during the first half of the year, to focus on matters related to the pandemic. Therefore, many of you that are accustomed to receiving a reminder regarding dues payment did not receive one.
Those notices have been sent. Please note … it's not too late to pay your 2020 dues and remain a current Academy member.
Thanks to all those members who have already paid their 2020 dues, which allowed the Academy to continue its endeavors on behalf of local physicians during this difficult time.

Dr. Mandell-Brown to lead the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery
Congratulations to Academy member and local plastic surgeon, Mark Mandell-Brown, MD, who was recently elected President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the world’s largest organization of cosmetic surgeons. He was installed during the AACS’s 35th Annual Meting held in Las Vegas in February.
Dedicated to patient safety, the AACS provides education, professional development and advocacy to advance the multi-specialty discipline of cosmetic surgery and aesthetic medicine. Additionally in 2017, Dr. Mandell-Brown received the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery’s Webster Award for outstanding contributions to cosmetic surgery.

Stress & burnout are serious issues
With the added pressures of COVID-19, physician well-being is more important than ever.
Plan to join the Ohio State Medical Association this summer for its Physician Well-Being Summer Series, featuring free virtual gatherings for all Ohio physicians on a variety of topics important to professional and personal health.
The first session, “Uncertainty & Compassion in Medicine: Mindful Practice within the context of the COVID-19 Pandemic,” is June 17 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Presenter is Michael Krasner, MD, FACP, Professor of Clinical Medicine; Co-Director, Mindful Practice Programs; University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

HHS announces relief fund payments for safety net hospitals and Medicaid & CHIP providers
On June 9, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), announced
additional distributions from the Provider Relief Fund to eligible Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) providers that participate in state Medicaid and CHIP programs. HHS expects to distribute approximately $15 billion to eligible providers that participate in state Medicaid and CHIP programs and have not received a payment from the Provider Relief Fund General Allocation. HHS is also announcing the distribution of $10 billion in Provider Relief Funds to safety net hospitals that serve our most vulnerable citizens. The safety net distribution will occur this week.
