A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
|
We are rapidly approaching the end of the second quarter for this year. Due before the end of this month are our Chapter membership rosters. These rosters determine your representation for next year's director’s meetings. If you have not rejoined both at the Chapter and State levels, please do, so you can be counted. CLSA needs your input and your support.
We will be holding our second board meeting next month on July 25th. Due to the current status of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be our second virtual meeting this year. Please ensure that your Chapter quarterly reports are submitted as soon after the end of the quarter as possible. Meet with your directors to ensure that they are sharing your concerns with us and our concerns with you.
Our three-state Conference is still scheduled for August 21-25. Our Education Foundation would like to remind you that this conference is our major fundraiser for the year and we need your donations and support to raise the funds we need to continue our commitment to issuing over $50,000 in scholarships every year. Contact Central Office if you need assistance with your donations.

CLSA LOSES FRIEND, DR. JAVAD ASHJAEE
|
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our founder Javad Ashjaee, a GPS/GNSS pioneer and visionary, on the morning of May 30, 2020, due to COVID-19 in Moscow, Russia.
Over the course of 37 years, Javad made an incredible and far-reaching impact in the GNSS community. He pioneered the world's most advanced GNSS technology through a multi-national effort that combined GPS and GLONASS and established more than a quarter century of partnership between Silicon Valley and Moscow. He was always proud of this "success story of cooperation". Javad was a true industry disrupter long before the term and concept became popular. His whole way of doing business was challenging and disrupting to the status quo.

NGS RELEASES NEW MARK RECOVERY TOOL AND BETA MARK INFORMATION PAGE
|
NGS relies extensively on crowdsourced information to update the status of geodetic survey marks throughout the country. To facilitate this task, NGS has recently developed a mobile device-friendly Mark Recovery Form that takes advantage of features available on mobile devices, such as Global Positioning System (GPS), mapping, and cameras. The form makes it easy to submit survey mark photographs, which provide visual data on the mark's condition. In addition, the form allows the submitter to note whether the mark is suitable for GPS observations.
Bench mark hunting is a fun, outdoor adventure that anyone can participate in. You can pick your search targets from our map of prioritized bench marks and submit your pictures and recovery notes with this new
Mark Recovery Form
.
New BETA Mark Information Page released for user feedback
As part of NGS’ National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) modernization efforts, NGS is developing new options for displaying the information about survey marks traditionally presented on NGS datasheets. The new mobile- and web-friendly BETA Mark Information Page color codes the data based on quality, adds photos and a map for better field use, and includes contextualized help features and links to more information. NGS is seeking feedback on this product and on the ways users would like to interact with NGS datasheet information in the future modernized NSRS.
