CRDHA Council Meeting Highlights & CPR Info

Highlights of the June 5-6 CRDHA Council meeting are now posted on our website

On the agenda was CPR certification for the 2020/2021 registration year

It is CRDHA Council's continued requirement, as per section 11 (b) of the Dental Hygienists Profession Regulation , that all registrants applying for renewal of a practice permit provide evidence of CPR certification at the HCP or BLS level, completed between Nov 1, 2019 and Oct 31, 2020. Due to COVID-19, some CPR providers are struggling to safely provide these courses with a hands-on component. While Council still recommends a hands-on course if available, Council has approved online re-certification of these CPR courses for the 2020-2021 registration period only .

Please ensure the College receives your CPR certification in sufficient time to enable your fee payment by October 31, 2020.

COVID-19 – Protecting Yourself and Preparing Your Workplace

Over the past few months, the College has received many questions about Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, the rights and responsibilities of employers and workers, and hazard assessments to address COVID-19.

To clarify how OHS legislation applies to dental hygiene practice, the CRDHA developed COVID-19 – Protecting Yourself and Preparing Your Workplace, to assist you and your workplace in better addressing OHS legislation and developing a workplace health and safety program specific to the current pandemic situation.

Congratulations U of A Dental Hygiene Class of 2020

(First Graduating Class from the 3-year degree program)

Like their counterparts the world over, graduates from the University of Alberta's Dental Hygiene Program participated in virtual ceremonies. While CRDHA was unable to celebrate your accomplishment with our traditional graduation brunch, we celebrate with you in spirit and welcome you to the profession.

We also congratulate Janelle Laing on receiving the CRDHA Student Award of Merit.

Entry-to-Practice Canadian Competencies for Dental Hygienists

The CRDHA is involved in a project undertaken by the Federation of Dental Hygiene Regulators of Canada (FDHRC) to develop Entry-to-Practice Canadian Competencies for Dental Hygienists (EPCCoDH).

A nationwide survey to validate competencies will be launched mid-July and remain open until September. As a registered dental hygienist, you will be invited to participate.

Watch for further updates on this project as well as a notification of the survey launch. Your input will be important. Please participate and encourage your dental hygienist friends and colleagues to participate as well.

Renewal is Fast Approaching -

Let's Get Ready Together

The College will be changing database providers and launching a new website prior to renewal opening in August.

If you have changed your name or changed or added an employer, please update your profile on the CRDHA Member Portal on the College website NOW.

By helping the College transfer current, complete profiles you will assist us with this major project. It will also mean less stress and complications for you during renewal as we all learn the ins and outs of a new registrant database and website.
