Summer has just begun and we are already feeling the excitement here in your OBX national parks! All three of your parks are seeing record visitation, so this month we're bringing you ways to re-discover these amazing places through the stories and activities you and your family love. It's also been an exciting month for us here at Outer Banks Forever - we announced our new Wright Route partnership with our aviation partners in Ohio, opened the 2021 Adopt A Sea Turtle Nest season (currently 37 confirmed sea turtle nests at the Seashore!) and we've been working behind the scenes on projects in your parks like an upgraded, mobility friendly kayak launch at Oregon Inlet and our popular Adopt A Pony program. None of these things would be possible without your support. I am so grateful that you've decided to be a part of our OBX Forever community and look forward to bringing you more ways to explore and protect these amazing places this summer! Honoring Juneteenth and the Freedmen's Colony in OBX

As we honor Juneteenth (June 19, 1865), the day enslaved people in the coastal city of Galveston, Texas, were finally freed after the Civil War, we reflect on the importance of this day to African American communities around the nation. Fort Raleigh National Historic Site preserves many important stories that have impacted our country’s history, including that of the Freedmen's Colony on Roanoke Island. On Wednesday, May 16th at 10:30am EST, we'll chat live with Chief Ranger, Boone Vandzura, about how you and your family can stay safe while having fun in your OBX national parks this summer.
