ATLAS is an automated tracking, linking and archiving solution exclusively built for the workforce development industry. ATLAS will cultivate a strong collaborative partnership with EPG with a focus on advancing our communities. The goal is to equip EPG and our partners with tools, resources, and support to achieve our greatest potential. ATLAS is a highly customizable web-based platform that’s designed to streamline workflow and service delivery methods. It incorporates technology that empowers workforce boards to efficiently track customers, archives activity/documents and inclusively links all information by utilizing a robust and centralized location.

Event: KEYS Internship Job Fair

The Knowledge Equals Youth Success (KEYS) program achieved a resounding success at Employ Prince George’s-Youth Services Internship Career Fair held at the American Job Center-Largo. The event provided a platform for KEYS young professionals to engage in a unique "Speed Interview" format reminiscent of speed dating. Each young professional had the valuable opportunity to showcase their strengths and abilities within a 5–7-minute timeframe, while employers shared compelling reasons why they should consider joining their organizations.

The event witnessed active participation from five esteemed employer partners: OmniSource, Pattron (Labri-Tech), Between the Bread Café, DC Tours & Transportation, and Chick-Fil-A. It is noteworthy that two of these employer partners were recipients of the prestigious Employ Prince George's Rapid Re-employment Grant (RREG), further highlighting their commitment to supporting workforce development initiatives in the community.

The impact of the event was substantial, with twenty KEYS participants receiving vital information from each employer regarding the specific skills required for the available positions, necessary certifications or training, job outlook, and salary/wage expectations. This information equipped young professionals with valuable insights to align their career aspirations with the demands of the job market.

In a truly remarkable outcome, all participants in attendance will be matched with one of the employers and offered a paid 10-week internship, consisting of 32 hours per week. This incredible opportunity will allow them to gain practical experience, further develop their skills, and strengthen their professional networks.

The success of KEYS at the Youth Services Internship Career Fair exemplifies the program's dedication to providing meaningful opportunities for young professionals, bridging the gap between education and employment. By connecting participants with reputable employers and facilitating internships, KEYS continues to empower youth in their pursuit of success and economic independence.

Event: YCC – Talent Ready Partners Summit Event

The Prince George's County Public School (PGCPS) Career Technical Education (CTE) TalentReady Program is a tremendous success, preparing students for careers in information technology and meeting the growing demand for IT talent in Prince George’s County. The program is a comprehensive IT education initiative that includes a summer bridge, specialized curriculum, dual enrollment, industry-recognized credentials, work-based learning, and other embedded support.

The program is an early college partnership with Prince George's Community College, Employ Prince George's, Inc., four-year colleges, and employer partners. This partnership provides students with access to college, career preparation in IT, and opportunities to learn and work with partnering regional businesses through Employ Prince Georges, Youth Career Connections.

On May 4, 2023, the first cohort of students successfully completed the program and was celebrated among partners, parents, and PGCPS staff at the MGM-National Harbor. Five students from Largo High School were dually enrolled at PGCC and earned their high school diploma along with their Associate’s degree. The program's success is evident in the accomplishments of its graduates and the partnerships that have been established.

The PGCPS Career Technical Education TalentReady Program is a shining example of how partnerships between organizations can create meaningful opportunities for students to succeed in their careers. The program's success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of program staff who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of young adults. Through this program, students are prepared for success in the Information Technology industry and positioned to meet the growing demand for IT talent.

Event: YCC Career Exploration Session

EPG’s Youth Career Connection (YCC) program hosted its first in-person Professional Development Session at the American Job Center located in the Tanger Outlets.

The program engages and enrolls graduating seniors from the Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, which provides paid virtual work experience, career exploration, and career readiness training conducted by industry professionals. Students enrolled in the program are subjected to multiple personality profiles, career aptitude assessments, career interest assessments, basic skills assessments, and career readiness assessments.

During today’s Professional Development Session, students from Friendly High School, Crossland High School, and Oxon Hill High School, had the opportunity to work on resume preparation, personal branding, and mock interviews/role-playing.

The YCC program’s primary goal is to place program participants into full-time employment, workforce programs, or occupational skills training aligned with their career pathways before or after graduation.

KEYS Internship Program Highlight

The Knowledge Equals Youth Success (KEYS) workforce program has achieved remarkable success in connecting program participants to paid internship opportunities. The program staff has worked tirelessly to connect young adults with employers in the Information Technology industry. As a result, this month twelve (12) program participants have secured internships at I.T. companies, including HBI Associates, Hill Support, and R. Emmanuel Bell Consulting.

During the 10-week internship, participants will work as Technical Support Representatives and Tier-1 Help Desk Technicians, gaining hands-on experience and practical knowledge in the field of Information Technology. The goal of the internship is to provide participants with valuable experience that can lead to a full-time job opportunity. The success of the KEYS workforce program is evident in the number of participants who have secured internships and gained valuable experience in the I.T. industry. The program staff's dedication to connecting participants to paid internship opportunities has made a significant impact in the lives of young adults, providing them with opportunities to gain skills and experience that will benefit them throughout their careers.

CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH!

The Juneteenth holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, which is the day Union Soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX to inform the remaining enslaved people of their freedom. This was two and a half years AFTER Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a time to celebrate freedom !

Opal Lee, who is considered the "grandmother of Juneteenth", spent her entire life fighting to get June 19th recognized as a Federal Holiday. On June 15, 2021 her efforts were rewarded and marks the day that Joe Biden signed Senate Bill S.475 officially making Juneteenth the eleventh recognized National Holiday. 

On this Juneteenth, we should eat, drink & be merry, as we celebrate freedom for ALL!  

This Economic Development Strategic Partnerships webinar will be held on June 22, 2023 from 1pm to 2pm

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH !

The Stonewall riots that started in June of 1969 were the catalyst for the Gay/LGBT pride movement. The first Pride Parade was held in June of 1970 to commemorate the riots and the tremendous progress made towards LGBT rights. Since then the LGBTQIA has grown to include many different orientations and has made countless strides in their fight for equal and basic human rights for people no matter their sexual orientation.

The LGBTQIA uses the word PRIDE to promote self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA) people as a social group. Pride was chosen, as opposed to shame and social stigma, to show the world that they are extremely proud of who they are and will not hide.

Many cities around the world join together to host a variety of pride events to include LGBT pride parades and marches, rallies, commemorations, community days, dance parties, and festivals.

Common symbols of pride include the rainbow flag and other pride flags, the lowercase Greek letter lambda (λ), the pink triangle and the black triangle.

Thank you for all you do to assist our MD residents who have disabilities get back to work and find employment. We appreciate your dedication to these clients and for your consistent presence within the AJC's to continue to assist anyone who enters our centers immediately.

The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) administers two employment readiness programs for individuals with disabilities:

• The general vocational rehabilitation (VR) program

• Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)

DORS also helps Maryland businesses recruit and retain qualified, valuable employees, who have disabilities.

                       PRIMARY SERVICES

DORS’ VR services help people with physical, emotional, intellectual, developmental, sensory, and learning disabilities by providing services such as career assessment and counseling, assistive technology, work-readiness training, job training, higher education, job coaching, and job placement.

DORS' Pre-ETS are specifically for “Students with Disabilities.” The Pre-ETS Fact Sheet on the DORS website has more information.

DORS’ Workforce & Technology Center (WTC), located in Baltimore, but offering dormitory and cafeteria support, can provide a wide range of services, including: work readiness programs, career assessments, academic tutoring & GED, employment services, assistive technology, a health & wellness center, services for people who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing, and career training including: Automotive General Service Technician, Automotive Detailing, Automotive Refinishing, Childcare Provider, Environmental Services, Food Service, Office Technology, Professional Animal Workers (PAWS), Security Guard, Warehouse Technician, and customized partnership trainings. DORS Business Services Representatives (BSR) offer training on reasonable accommodations and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and provide workforce diversity and inclusion resources.

The 2023 Veteran Shark Tank Application is live!

PGCC’s Veteran Shark Tank is Prince George’s Community College’s annual business pitch competition.

Entrepreneurs who are active duty, reservists, national guard, and veterans as well as dependents of any of the aforementioned individuals living in the Prince George's County Maryland and the greater DC, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) areas are eligible to apply.

Veterans and entrepreneurial dependents of veterans and service members outside of the DMV area may apply as well; however, priority is given to DMV area applicants.

This third annual pitch competition is made possible because of the generosity of our partner United Way. PGCC’s Veteran Services’ focus is to support veterans academically, professionally, financially, and personally. Our mission is to continue supporting those who have selflessly served and protected us.
