The May jobs report indicates postings broke a four month slide of year-over-year postings decline. May 2022 postings were flat compared to May 2021. However, coming on the heels of four straight double-digit declining months, it was a welcome bit of good news. Unfortunately, the overall market remains in a bit of a malaise with no meaningful movement to counteract the current jobs stalemate.

National PTSD Awareness Month has been observed annually in June, since 2014. It initially started as National PTSD Day, when the US Senate declared it on June 27th, 2010. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and how everyone who may be suffering can access the  treatment they need.

According to the National Center for PTSD, approximately 7 to 8 percent of the population will experience some type of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during their lifetime. Majority of which, will not seek treatment. 

As a result of trauma, men, women, and children can experience PTSD in their lives. Specific events such as combat, accidents, disasters, and abuse are a few causes of PTSD. it is important to make everyone aware that PTSD is treatable, and can be cured. There are many resources available to attain a diagnosis and get help.

The Juneteenth holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, which is the day Union Soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX to inform the remaining enslaved people of their freedom. This was two and a half years AFTER Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a time to celebrate freedom !

Opal Lee, who is considered the "grandmother of Juneteenth", spent her entire life fighting to get June 19th recognized as a Federal Holiday. On June 15, 2021 her efforts were rewarded and marks the day that Joe Biden signed Senate Bill S.475 officially making Juneteenth the eleventh recognized National Holiday. 

On this Juneteenth, we should eat, drink & be merry, as we celebrate freedom for ALL!

LGBT pride (also known as gay pride) is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people as a social group. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements. Pride has lent its name to LGBT-themed organizations, institutes, foundations, book titles, periodicals, a cable TV station, and the Pride Library.

Ranging from solemn to carnivalesque, pride events are typically held during LGBT Pride Month or some other period that commemorates a turning point in a country's LGBT history, for example Moscow Pride in May for the anniversary of Russia's 1993 decriminalization of homosexuality. Some pride events include LGBT pride parades and marches, rallies, commemorations, community days, dance parties, and festivals.

Common symbols of pride include the rainbow flag and other pride flags, the lowercase Greek letter lambda (λ), the pink triangle and the black triangle.

The Next Generation of Enhanced Employment Strategies (NextGen) project aims to identify and study innovative employment programs for people facing complex employment challenges. The study explores how the programs are designed and operated, their cost, and how effective they are at improving participants’ employment, health, and other outcomes related to economic self-sufficiency and well-being.

This brief discusses the experiences of six programs participating in the NextGen Project and presents key takeaways from their efforts to maintain and develop new connections with employers during the pandemic. The brief is based on information shared during regular telephone communications between the NextGen Project team and program leaders to guide the design and implementation of the NextGen Project, as well as reports program administrators use to track participant outcomes.

This webinar will provide workforce development professionals the fundamentals of available services through the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and examples of collaborative approaches to best serve newly arriving refugees, asylees, and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) entrants.

With a record number of new refugees, asylees, and SIV holders arriving in the United States, the workforce development system is being tasked with finding suitable training and employment services to individuals with work authorization. Meanwhile, the Office of Refugee and Resettlement is also providing career training, workforce development, English language classes, employment opportunities and other support services. As new arrivals have various educational and employment backgrounds, it is beneficial for Employment and Training Administration (ETA) funded workforce development staff to be familiar with local and state refugee resettlement staff and services to optimize available services.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this webinar, participants will become

• Familiar with the different types of new arrival status: refugees, asylees, SIV holders;
• Familiar with the difference types of ORR funded services available to refugees, asylees, SIV holders;
• Familiar with key timelines with respective ORR services;
• Able to connect and collaborate with state and local ORR staff in order to help entrant services optimize ORR and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)/Discretionary Grant services; and
• Familiar with successful and emerging practices occurring between ORR and local area workforce development staff.
