HAPPY JUNETEENTH!

The Juneteenth holiday holds profound historical significance, commemorating June 19, 1865, when Union Soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX, to enlighten the last remaining enslaved individuals of their long-overdue freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln. This pivotal moment in our nation's history invites us to celebrate freedom and the relentless pursuit of equality. It is fitting to honor the remarkable contributions of pioneers like Opal Lee, affectionately known as the "grandmother of Juneteenth," who dedicated her life to ensuring that June 19th would be recognized as a federal holiday. Her tireless advocacy culminated in a historic victory on June 15, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed Senate Bill S.475, officially establishing Juneteenth as the eleventh National Holiday. As we reflect on these achievements, let us connect this spirit of empowerment to the American Job Center’s commitment to uplifting underserved communities and fostering economic stability. The Stonewall riots of June 1969 ignited a powerful movement that reshaped the landscape of LGBTQIA rights and pride, serving as a pivotal moment in history that continues to inspire generations. Just a year later, in June 1970, the first Pride Parade was held, not only to honor the bravery of those who stood up for justice but also to celebrate the remarkable progress made towards equality. Prince George's Community Federal Credit Union has joined forces with the Financial Empowerment Center at Prince George's Community College and the Prince George's County Council to launch a transformative initiative—the Credit Builder Program—specifically designed for the residents of District 8.

2025/2026 AACP APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

The AACP is a four-year apprenticeship program, approved for HVAC technicians in Maryland and Virginia and is designed to equip you with the necessary training to progress from an apprentice to a journey person, setting the foundation for a stable and rewarding career. With a growing demand for skilled workers in this field, HVAC/R offers the promise of year-round employment, competitive income, and opportunities for advancement.

About Curtis Campogni

Curtis Campogni is a passionate advocate for positive change, resilience, and empathy-driven leadership. As the founder of Speak4MC, he works with organizations and individuals to cultivate growth and drive meaningful change through motivational interviewing, leadership development, and the C.A.P.E. approach—Cognitive Empathy, Adaptability, Purpose-driven Choices, and Enthusiasm.

Curtis’s journey began with a desire to find purpose beyond traditional roles, ultimately discovering his calling while working with at-risk youth in Florida. There, he saw firsthand how empathy and motivation could transform lives. Since founding Speak4MC in 2021, Curtis has partnered with various agencies, delivering workshops and trainings that inspire professionals to connect with their purpose, overcome challenges, and elevate their impact.

Through his C.A.P.E. Conversations series and his YouTube channel, Curtis continues to share his insights with a broad audience, drawing from both his personal experiences as a father and his professional roles in child welfare and workforce development. His first book, C.A.P.E. Conversations: How Superheroes Communicate with Children, reflects his commitment to guiding others toward personal growth and resilience.

As he looks to the future, Curtis remains committed to empowering others, fostering community impact, and driving change at both the individual and legislative levels.
