Support for the Empire Hotel Needed!
The iconic Empire Hotel is located diagonally across from the Salisbury Business Center in the center of historic downtown Salisbury NC. While the building has been vacant for some years, Black Point Investments, LLC signed a purchase agreement with plans to develop the property into market rate apartments with retail storefronts along South Main Street.

While Gov. Roy Cooper has outlined financial support for the Empire Hotel project, local representation is likely not going to support this rehabilitation that is so important to our downtown stability.

Please consider emailing our local representatives in support of these redevelopment efforts. Contact information for representatives can be found here: https://www.ncleg.gov/Members/CountyRepresentation/Rowan

Thank you in advance for your consideration in contacting our elected officials to support Main Street USA.

Rowan County Economic Resurgence

Rowan County Economic Resurgence Featured in National Publication
Site Selection Magazine , a leading publication in corporate real estate, facility planning, location analysis and foreign direct investment, talks about Rowan County’s growing dominance in the transportation manufacturing sector. The article, penned by Ron Starner, details how Freightliner , a division of Daimler Trucks and the country’s biggest producer of long-haul trucks, highlights the $27.1 million plant investments Freightliner is making at its Cleveland operation. The Cleveland plant employs 2,450 workers, 800 added recent years.
Additional success stories that piggyback on Freightliner’s growth:  Agility Fuel Solutions consolidated (5) plants across North America into a new operation in Salisbury – a $20 million investment resulting in approx. 180 new jobs.  New York Air Brake began operations earlier this year in its new Summit Corporate Center facility, creating 94 new jobs, and Amrep , a California garbage truck manufacturer, announced that it is close to opening a second facility in Rowan County to service its east coast customers.

Starner writes, “Below-average costs of doing business and low cost of living make the area attractive" and further states that companies such as Freightliner define locating their business here as a very positive experience.
Chewy to build $55M, 1,200-job distribution center
Online pet-food retailer  Chewy  will build a huge fulfillment center in Rowan County that’s expected to employ 1,200 within the next five years or so. The Salisbury-area location will fill in a void in the company’s coverage of fulfillment centers.

This is Project Kodiak, which the Rowan County Economic Development Commission has said will provide salaries averaging $28,388 plus benefits.

The project will go on 88.5 acres of land on Long Ferry Road, adjacent to Interstate 85 in Rowan County. Chewy gets a One N.C. Fund grant of $166,650. The Rowan County Board of Commissioners also recently  approved more than $2 million in incentives for the deal , identifying the company only as an online retailer.
