Eblen Charities Newsletter: Feb. 25, 2022
February 22

Dear friends –
If we haven’t met, I’m happy to introduce myself to you as Eblen Charities’ Executive Director! It’s a joy to work with our wonderful staff and volunteers in service to our community. We’re working hard to meet our neighbors’ needs with housing, energy and heating assistance, medical needs – and to help students in our local schools with access to healthy food over their spring break.
Read on to learn more about this year’s Hoops Against Hunger, in partnership with Ingles, SoCon and 9 area hotels to raise funds and food for low-income children in our community.
With gratitude,

Beth

Hoops Against Hunger
at Ingles SoCon Basketball Championships
& The Hoops Against Hunger Hotel Challenge

Eblen Charities is launching its Hoops Against Hunger campaign, now in its 8th year, in partnership with the Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championships this March 4-7 at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in downtown Asheville, NC.

Financial donations and easy-to-prepare, kid-friendly food items will be collected in the lobbies of partner Asheville hotels hosting the SoCon basketball teams, between now and the end of the tournament. Donations can be made by texting “HOOPS” to 345345 or by visiting eblencharities.org.

One out of five children in our community relies on the free and reduced lunch program for healthy food. The food collected through our Hoops Against Hunger program will go to local schools and students who may not have a source of food over their spring break.

We are grateful to our partner hotels in this important work:
Cambria Hotel, Crowne Plaza, DoubleTree Biltmore, Four Points Sheraton, Hilton Garden Inn Asheville, Hilton Biltmore Park, Holiday Inn Biltmore West, DoubleTree Downtown and Renaissance Asheville.
Look for Team Eblen in the Ingles SoCon Fan Zone!
All tournament long Eblen staff and our wonderful team of volunteers can be found in the Ingles SoCon Fan Zone where we have been provided an opportunity to not only help the children of our community in their battle against hunger, but also a chance to raise awareness for the visiting fans and teams to take home and get involved in their community as well.
The Hoops Against Hunger Cheerleader Relays Return!
After a year in hiatus due to covid precautions, the show-stealing, fan-favorite Cheerleader Relays are back! Watch during the breaks throughout the tourney as team's cheerleaders race to raise awareness for Hoops Against Hunger. Who will bring home this year's Wheaties Box Trophy? Make sure to keep up with us through our social media for updates on all the fun!
