Eblen Charities Newsletter: Tools for Schools Special Edition
|
|
It’s no secret that many of our WNC neighbors are struggling. Our region has grappled with the highest cost of living in the state for years.
We’ve all seen the higher-than-normal costs at the grocery store and the gas station. It leads to hard decisions - do I buy medication or food? Do we buy gasoline, or the school supplies our children need? There are no good choices in this scenario.
Eblen is here to help when times are tough with practical solutions that make a real difference. We’re gearing up for our annual school supply drive in partnership with Ingles Markets, to collect new schools supplies for our community – which we’ll distribute later in the month to people in need.
Read this month’s edition to learn more about what we are working on – and how you can help.

Say Hello to Julie Johnson!
A Short and Sweet Q&A with one of Eblen's long time unsung heroes behind the scenes
|
Tell us about yourself?
My name is Julie Johnson and my husband, Sammy and I have been in Asheville for 35 years. We raised our two sons here and now have a wonderful daughter-in- law, an almost daughter-in-law and our first grandchild, Forest. I love being outdoors nd enjoying this beautiful area we are blessed to call home.
What do you do for Eblen?
I began volunteering at Eblen five years ago and shortly after became the Project Coordinator. I assist with the Eblen events as well as various other tasks in the office.
Why Eblen?
The people at Eblen Charities truly have a heart for the people we serve in Buncombe County. I enjoy working with them and so many in our community to make a little difference for someone in need.
Fun Fact:
I hate running but checked a 10k and a 5k off my bucket list! I have orange blood....
Go Tigers!
Thank you, Julie!

We were thrilled that our Eblen Charities Housing Stabilization request for COVID recovery funds from Buncombe County was approved. We'll use this to keep people in housing - and we were happy to see that a lot of other nonprofit agencies doing important and necessary work in our community will also be receiving funds.
