Build Fundraising Capacity with Existing Resources

Today’s nonprofit teams are balancing increasing expectations with limited resources. Many fundraising professionals already know what drives donor engagement and retention, but the challenge is finding the time and capacity to execute consistently.  


As nonprofits grow, some fundraising activities become more difficult to sustain. Development directors are responsible for turning fundraising strategy into day-to-day execution, but administrative demands can leave less time for donor stewardship, campaign planning and relationship-building. Executive directors balance fundraising alongside operations, marketing, finances, staff and strategic planning. Fundraising leaders may spend the morning preparing board reports, the afternoon troubleshooting donation records and the evening attending a fundraising event.  


These competing demands can pull staff away from the activities that strengthen donor relationships and advance fundraising goals. Building nonprofit fundraising capacity requires reliable data, efficient systems and thoughtful decision-making to help teams protect time for donor relationships.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Samaritan Car Care Clinic offers its thanks to Greater Cincinnati Foundation for including the Clinic in the 2026 A Gift To Grow campaign. GCF fundholders and donors came together to donate just over $10,000 to support the student co-op program sponsored by the Samaritan Car Care Clinic. That program allows students to “learn by doing” while at the same time addressing transportation barriers for low-income families.


On October 8, 2026, 10:00am-2:00pm, ARCO 3301 Price Avenue, we will be welcoming participants to our second annual Neighborpalooza. This is a community event that will offer those experiencing housing instability in the Tri-State area an opportunity to receive basic medical screenings, a free coat or cold weather sleeping bag, a hot meal, and information from community organizations and resources aimed at providing layers of support.


More than 4,000 students recently went back to school wearing new backpacks filled with supplies thanks to United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Backpacks for Success project. The combined value of backpacks and supplies surpassed $120,000. Most were distributed throughout August during events hosted by community partners. 


The Art Academy of Cincinnati (AAC) will welcome the next generation of artists and designers to Cincinnati for National Portfolio Day on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, noon to 4:00pm at AAC’s Over-the-Rhine campus,1212 Jackson Street. Free and open to the public, this event brings representatives from leading art and design colleges and universities together in one place, giving prospective undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to receive individualized feedback on their work, explore programs, and learn more about pursuing an education and career in art and design.


Ready. Set. BLINK!, a free opening celebration on Thursday, Oct. 8, will transform Central Parkway near TQL Stadium into an interactive gathering place filled with art, music, performances and hands-on creative experiences. The event will run from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. on Central Parkway between Liberty Street and West 14th Street, with TQL Stadium providing the backdrop for the evening.


The Samaritan Car Care Clinic offers a big thank you to the Diocese of Covington for a $5,000 DPAA grant to address transportation barriers. The donation will help with car repairs for low-income families referred to the Clinic so they can literally stay on the road to self-sufficiency.


As Cincinnati Works celebrates its 30th anniversary, a new Economic Impact Report demonstrates that the nonprofit’s work is not only changing individual lives but also delivering significant economic value to the Greater Cincinnati region. New Report by the Cincinnati Regional Chamber finds Cincinnati Works job placements generated $96.6 million in regional earnings, supported more than 1,300 jobs and generated $10.8 million in tax revenue.


On Wednesday, August 26, IPM Food Pantry partnered with the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce to host a ribbon cutting celebrating expanded pallet racking and a new 400-square-foot freezer in the Market at IPM. These enhancements increase IPM’s storage capacity, improve efficiency, reduce food waste, and help ensure families have access to a greater variety of nutritious food.


Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries opened its new Colerain Resource Hub at 6401 Colerain Ave. on Sept. 2. The new, nearly 60,000-square-foot location includes a Goodwill Retail Store, Donation Center, Outlet Store and walk-in Opportunity Center, expanding access to affordable shopping, convenient donations and community services in Colerain.


Last Mile Food Rescue and Kroger's Cincinnati-Dayton Division celebrated a major milestone in their longstanding partnership with five million pounds of fresh food donated to help feed neighbors experiencing food insecurity throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.


The Victorian at Riverside is grateful for a grant of $5,000 from the PNC Foundation, ensuring that residents receive regular, nutritious meals in a safe and supportive environment. These meals are essential for health and dignity, helping residents maintain their independence while avoiding hospital stays or nursing home admission.


LEAD Training, a growing Cincinnati-based nonprofit that helps primary and secondary students build life and career skills, will provide dedicated on-premises career coaches or a fractional embedded career coach to 14 high schools for the 2026-2027 school year providing guidance to students as they prepare for their career after high school. 



The Girl Scout Coalition of Indiana and Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) released the 2026 Indiana Girl Report, the state’s most comprehensive, girl-centered collection of data regarding the health, education, emotional wellness, and social connection of girls in the State of Indiana. Launched in 2023, the partnership between the Girl Scout Coalition of Indiana, Girl Scouts, and IYI aims to understand girls’ realities in Indiana and the variances across regions.


FUNDING AND RESOURCE OPPORTUNITIES

The bi3 Fund, HealthPath Foundation of Ohio, and Interact for Health are seeking applications for the fourth cohort of the Data for Equity Funding Collaborative. The Collaborative plans to award 18-month grants of $40,000 to as many as 10 nonprofit and governmental organizations focused on health or health justice. The funding and learning opportunity will help organizations shift culture, mindsets, and practices to advance community-driven, equitable data and evaluation.


The Brickers Foundation is accepting submissions from nonprofit organizations interested in being featured through a virtual recorded interview. Two nonprofits are selected each month, and there is no fee to apply or participate. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Learn more and submit your organization here.


A Fall 2026 class at NKU will look at professional map-making for spatial data visualization and exploration. We would like to invite applications from nonprofits (or programs within nonprofits) that need professional mapping support.  This class is part of NKU’s Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project. One non-profit organization (agency) will be selected by the students to receive a $2,000 grant to support implementation of a mapping project or a program that the mapping project supports.



Whitney/Strong offers free community training throughout Greater Cincinnati, including QPR suicide prevention, Stop the Bleed®, STRONG Rules firearm safe storage education, and Strength in Community mental wellness programming. Ride Cincinnati, the grassroots cycling nonprofit organization, has officially opened its grant applications for 2026, an opportunity to provide support to local cancer initiatives advancing cancer research, education and care right here in our community. Organizations whose work aligns with Ride Cincinnati's mission are encouraged to apply for funding consideration.
