Year-End Website Checklist for Nonprofits to Test Your Donor's Digital Path

A year-end campaign is usually judged by the appeal: the story, the ask, the design and the timing. Donors experience something much less tidy. They may open an email on a phone, search the organization’s name, compare two program pages, look for evidence that a matching gift deadline is real, and then move through a donation form and confirmation message.

Every one of those steps either reinforces the decision to give or introduces doubt.

That is why the final review before a year-end campaign should include more than proofreading the appeal. It should follow the donor’s actual digital path. The goal is not a complete website redesign in December but a focused readiness check that removes preventable friction while there is still time to fix it.

Start Your Year-End Website Checklist With the Public Facts

Begin with the facts that should be consistent wherever a donor encounters the organization. Confirm the campaign dates, fundraising goal, matching-gift terms, program names, contact information and any tax-deductibility language that appears on campaign pages, donation forms, social profiles and third-party listings.

This sounds basic, but year-end messaging often accumulates in layers.

A current campaign page may sit beside an older post with an expired deadline. A program may have been renamed on the main website but not in the donation menu. A match may apply only through a certain date while a scheduled social post implies that it runs through Dec. 31.

Create one, short, source-of-truth sheet for the campaign. List each fact, the approved wording and the person responsible for changes. Then search the website and major public profiles for older versions.

The exercise is less about perfect uniformity than avoiding contradictions that could make a careful donor pause.

Test the Journey on a Phone

Many internal reviews happen on a large monitor whereas the donor is using a phone. Test the complete journey on a real mobile device, starting from the same channels donors will use: email, social media, search and the organization’s homepage.

  • Can someone identify the purpose of the campaign without pinching and zooming?
  • Is the primary action visible before a long block of text?
  • Are buttons large enough to tap?
  • Does the donation form ... continue reading...
