Welcome to the Neighborhood:
Last week,
Northwest Federal Credit Union
opened their first Maryland location in Rockville. MCCC President & CEO Gigi Godwin and other members of MCCC staff attended the grand opening event. We have enjoyed seeing Rockville Branch Manager Christian Mendez at a number of MCCC events, and are optimistic about their ability to grow in Montgomery County.

Montgomery College is on the RISE:
The Maryland Department of Commerce
recently approved
the Germantown Campus of Montgomery College as a
RISE zone
. According to the Department of Commerce, "t
he RISE Zone designation will help the college develop its academic, business, and research campus, also known as the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology (PIC MC), more fully into an innovation district; and integrate resources between academic, businesses, and community organizations." We are proud to have Montgomery College as an MCCC member organization.

VIP Testimony at the 2019 State Priorities Hearing
|
On November 14, the Montgomery County State Delegation held their 2019 Legislative Priorities Hearing. Over the course of roughly 4 hours, nearly 100 people testified in front of our newly-elected Montgomery County Senators and Delegates.
Tricia Swanson
testified on behalf of MCCC, sharing data points about Montgomery County's business community, and advocating for support of the Montgomery County Chamber Community Foundation's Veteran Institute for Procurement (VIP).
Ahmed Ali, President & Chairman of
TISTA Science and Technology Corporation
and a VIP Grad, shared the importance of the VIP program to his and other veteran-owned businesses and urged delegation members to support continued funding of VIP.
