Event Recap: Tour of Albion Hydroelectric Plant

On June 5, NSPE-MA members and non-member guests experienced a free presentation and tour of the Albion Hydroelectric Plant in Cumberland, RI – an operating small-scale river-powered hydroelectric plant that generates 2,034 megawatt hours of electricity annually.

NSPE-MA Director Anthony Morreale, PE, Principal Engineer with LIG Consultants served as presenter. He discussed how small-scale hydroelectric projects are designed, constructed, and operated, and led a tour of site features such as the two Archimedes screw turbines with an installed capacity of 430 kilowatts. NSPE-MA is grateful to David Cardinale, Plant Manager, for hosting this unique professional development event.

August 6: PE Day Celebrates Licensure and the Profession

You're invited to join PEs worldwide and celebrate Professional Engineers Day on Wednesday August 6, 2025! Professional Engineers make a difference every day by ensuring that the profession delivers on its obligation to deliver safe, ethical, and skilled engineering services to the public.

PE Day is our chance to tell the story of what it means to be a PE, recognize the work of licensed PEs, and lift up all the ways PEs provide value to the public, to clients, and to society.

Save the date and be part of the online virtual event using the hashtag #LicensedPEday on LinkedIn and other social media! Post your on-site photos and selfies; share your reasons for being a PE; and recognize your colleagues and teams.

Register for NSPECon25: August 6-8 in Kansas City, MO

As the only national program for PEs, NSPECon provides learning opportunities designed to help you develop a broader set of skills and knowledge, enhance your effectiveness and impact at all stages of your career, and make meaningful connections.

Women professional engineers are invited to participate in a unique professional leadership development program interwoven into the NSPECon25 program. The three-day, in-person opportunity supports mid-career women professional engineers in navigating their career path and leveraging their leadership skills.

This program was imagined by the Women’s Leadership Program Task Force of NSPE with the goal of empowering female leaders to reach their career goals while leading the way toward a more diverse future in our profession. MSPE/NSPE members can log in and read more about it in this article:  A Blueprint to Authentic Leadership
