Development Cost Charges Bylaw Update

Municipalities levy development cost charges (DCC's) on new development to pay for new or expanded infrastructure such as sewer, water, drainage, parks, roads, and fire protection facilities.
Development cost charges are established by bylaw. The District of Lantzville has an existing Development Cost Charge Bylaw (Bylaw No. 154, 2018) which was adopted in January 2019.
To keep up with inflation and the evolving infrastructure needs for the municipality, the District of Lantzville is updating its existing Development Cost Charge Bylaw. As part of this process, the District is hosting a community open house to gather input on the proposed Development Cost Charge Bylaw (No. 422, 2025).
Date: Thursday, March 19, 2026.
Location: Costin Hall - 7232 Lantzville Rd.
Time: 10:00am to 5:00pm.

| Huddlestone Park Temporary Closure | |
Huddlestone Park will be closed from March 10 through to March 31 to facilitate park construction and upgrades.
The closure includes all parts of the park including the playground, picnic pavilion, washrooms, and the parking lot. The closure will be in effect 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

| Annual Watermain Flushing | |
The District of Lantzville watermains and fire hydrants will be flushed throughout the month of March.
Watermain flushing is part of our annual routine maintenance. Flushing is achieved by releasing water in the mains through fire hydrants and stand pipes. This causes a bubbling of air which may discolor the water temporarily. No chemicals are added to the system.
Lantzville water users may experience some discolouration of their water. We recommend that you do laundry on weekends or evenings to avoid any discolouration of clothes, etc. This should not affect the quality of the drinking water.

The Spring and Summer Activity Guide is now live. Registration for Aquatics begins, Wednesday, March 4 at 6am. Registration for all other programs starts on Wednesday, March 11 at 6am.
- Two Super Hero Swims will be held at Nanaimo Aquatic Centre over spring break on Friday March 20, and Friday March 27, 12-2pm. Participants are invited to dress in a costume and participate in a variety of activities with pool staff.

Water to Earth Month kicks of March 22 with activities for all ages. In partnership with the Regional District of Nanaimo, there will be a variety of workshops and courses to celebrate.

| | Did you know Property Tax Notices go to the mailing address on title? | | |
Annual property tax notices will be issued towards the end of May and are automatically sent to the mailing address on the title of the property. This is particularly important to note if you own a rental property in Lantzville or have recently gained occupancy for a new building.
If your mailing address isn't current, you may have also missed Property Assessment notices and Property Tax & Speculation Notices from the Provincial government.
To change your mailing address, you must contact the Land Title and Survey Authority (LTSA) to register an address change on title. Title changes are automatically communicated to the District of Lantzville. The LTSA can also be reached by phone: 604.630.9630.

For 2026, Minetown Day will be Saturday, September 12.
| | | | Legion Celebrates 100th Anniversary | |
For nearly a century, the Royal Canadian Legion has been the voice for Veterans and a beloved fixture in communities across Canada including ours. This year, the Legion celebrates its 100th anniversary.
As part of the centenary, the Legion is offering FREE MEMBERSHIPS for all new members. You can join online OR by completing an application in person at Lantzville's Branch 257, Tuesday and Friday 1-8pm, or Saturday, 3-8pm.

| | Spring Ahead Forever & Check Your Smoke Alarms | |
Daylight saving time will begin on Sunday, March 8 at 200am. When the clocks "spring forward", sunrise and sunset will occur an hour later.
Earlier today, the Provincial government announced that March 8, 2026 will be the last time most residents of BC will have to change their clocks, a practice that has been in place dating back to World War I. The province will permanently adopt daylight time with a new time zone called "Pacific Time". Check out the news here!
With our last clock change, it is also time to check that your smoke alarms are functioning, replace batteries, and replace any outdated devices. You can test your alarm by pressing the test button on the device. Every home in BC is required by law to have a working smoke alarm.
| Did You Know Municipal Elections Use the Provincial Voter's List? | |
In preparation for the Fall 2026 Municipal Election, please make sure you are registered and your home address is current on the Provincial Voter's List. Your primary residential address determines the municipality and school district race where you can cast a vote.
