March Business Connection
Transportation Survey Opens - Please Share Your Opinions
What will the Neponset Valley be like when businesses open back up? That’s a big question – but there’s an even bigger one: What do we want it to be like?

The Chamber along with our Neponset Valley communities are working with the Neponset Valley Transportation Management Association and Metropolitan Area Planning Council to figure out how to make transportation in our area better than before COVID, especially at sites along Routes 1 and 1A.

Tell us what you think! This survey will take about five minutes, and it’s anonymous. We’ll use your answers to plan for improvements.

(Please feel free to share this survey with your employees and other businesses.)
Chamber Members in the News
Mass General Brigham recently released the results its 2020 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). This community health needs assessment aims to gain a greater understanding of the issues that residents within the Westwood service area face, how those issues are currently being addressed, and where there are gaps and opportunities to address these issues in the future. This CHNA report provides the results from a mixed methods study aimed at identifying the most pressing social, economic, and health issues in the service area.
On March 1st, Rockland Trust opened its 4th annual Small Business Big Dreams contest, which will provide small businesses in our community a chance to win $20,000 to help their business grow. They’re asking participants to submit their background information and give an overview of their strengths, challenges, and plan for the future.

Seven out of ten small businesses (71%) are “very dependent on one or two key people” for their organization’s success. Yet only 22% have key person life insurance in place, according to research conducted by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. What exactly is the other 50% missing? And might your business be facing this same gap? Here’s a closer look:

What is key employee insurance?
Also known as “key man insurance,” “key executive insurance,” or “corporate owned life insurance” (COLI), this coverage is essentially a life insurance policy. It is owned by the key employee’s business, and the business is its beneficiary.
U.S. Chamber Names New CEO
Last month, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced that Suzanne Clark will become the organization's next CEO effective Thursday, March 11, 2021, the date of the organization’s next Board of Directors meeting. As you may recall, current CEO Tom Donohue announced his retirement plans nearly two years ago, and the executive committee of the Board of Directors began a multiyear succession process.
Please join us in congratulating Suzanne as she takes on the reigns to lead the U.S. Chamber, strengthen the organization for the future, and carry forward its important mission on behalf of our members worldwide. We are also grateful to Tom Donohue for his strong and tireless leadership on behalf of the business community over his 24 years with the organization. He has been an iconic leader and we are fortunate that he will continue to serve the U.S. Chamber in an advisory capacity. To learn more about the U.S. Chamber's leadership announcement, please click here.
