A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Recently, the APLS-CLSA-NALS Conference Committee made the difficult decision to reschedule the conference, joining the hundreds, if not thousands, of other conferences, trade shows and events around the world that have been canceled or postponed as attendees, sponsors, speakers and organizers voiced concerns about the new coronavirus.

I want to personally thank the members of this committee as they work with everyone involved with what is basically cancelling the already in place conference and putting another one together for some time later this fall. Please bear with them as they work through this process and give them the support they need to recreate the excellent conference they had in place. I am disappointed that I will not be seeing you later this month, but let’s all come back together bigger, stronger and healthier in August. I’ll be there, see you then.

Sincerely,

Keith W. Spencer
President 2020
IS LAND SURVEYING AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE?
BPELSG released the following statement regarding whether or not land surveying is considered an essential service:

The California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists has received inquiries from licensees about whether their work is considered "essential" under Executive Order N-33-20, issued by Governor Gavin Newsom on March 19. However, the Board does not have the authority to make this determination. The Executive Order provided a stay at home order except as needed to maintain the continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure sectors. The Executive Order referred to the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which provides guidance regarding the identification of essential critical infrastructure workers. CISA has prepared a document to provide guidance when determining whether your business provides essential or non-essential services and whether you should remain open. You should also check with your local county health department to determine what activities are also considered essential and non-essential.

The CISA document is available here:

POLC COVID-19 UPDATE
NCEES has been monitoring the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its potential impact on our programs and services for several weeks. With a pandemic officially declared for COVID-19, NCEES is taking the following actions to help contain and slow the spread of the virus.

Pencil-and-paper exam administration

  • The April 2020 paper-and-pencil exam administration is canceled.
  • Exams offered only once a year during the April 2020 administration will be offered during the October 2020 administration.
  • Registration dates for the October 2020 exam administration will be announced soon.
  • Additional information will be emailed directly to affected examinees.
  • NCEES meetings
  • All NCEES meetings scheduled to be held between March 15 and May 2 are canceled. This includes exam development meetings and the 2020 combined zone interim meeting.
  • Meetings scheduled to begin after May 2 will be reassessed as more information is available.
  • All meeting attendees will receive an email with additional information specific to their meeting. The email will include instructions on canceling travel arrangements and whether the meeting will be rescheduled.

CBT exams
Computer-based testing (CBT) examinees should continue to contact Pearson VUE (pearsonvue.com) with questions about a specific test center.

Additional information
Additional updates will be provided as needed. These updates will be posted on the NCEES website at ncees.org/COVID-19.
APLS-CLSA-NALS CONFERENCE IS POSTPONED
APLS-CLSA-NALS Conference Attendees, Exhibitors, & Speakers:

Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of the health and well-being of all attendees, the APLS-CLSA-NALS Conference Committee has made the difficult decision to reschedule the conference.

We are working with the Luxor Hotel and our other service providers to determine an available date this fall when the COVID-19 outbreak will likely be over. The Conference Committee would like to thank the Luxor Hotel, Alliance Expo, Boulder Creek Golf Course, and Gold Coast Bowling Alley for their flexibility and assistance during this unprecedented situation.

Upon selection of the new date, which we anticipate will occur next week, we will provide additional information. The Conference Committee would like to thank the attendees, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and student volunteers for your patience as we work through the logistics of this reschedule.
