Who We Are

Sometimes when I tell people I'm with the Maine Senior College Network they get a confused look and wonder, who is that? But anyone who has experienced a senior college can tell you: We are volunteers, learners, sharers, explorers, historians, scientists, musicians, artists, travelers, dancers, cooks, teachers, book lovers, writers, discoverers, experts and novices, experimenters, seekers – we are all of those and more.

We have 15 active senior colleges in Maine. Each one plans exciting, intellectually stimulating, non-credit courses taught by volunteers for adults over 50 (did I mention fun?). And we are the only state with a network like this.

So don't wonder who we are, come experience us and share us with your friends and family. Meet up with your curious-minded peers and experience what a senior college can do. We are ... you! See you soon!

Best wishes,

Joyce

Belfast Senior College Gets a New Home

A classroom with two screens and built-in microphone.
An open door leads to the Senior College at Belfast banner to greet people entering the classroom.

The Senior College at Belfast opened at its new location at Suite 330, 9 Field Street, Belfast. The college now boasts more than 600 square feet, arranged as a classroom, office, and storage. There is a kitchenette that is adequate for coffee, tea, and hosting catered snacks.

The classroom is outfitted with two microphones, three cameras, and three large screens. These are backed by an audio mixer and video switcher to support class recordings as well as hybrid classes through Zoom. Instructors can host Zoom courses from there if their personal internet service is not up to the task.

In the classroom, instructors can talk directly to remote participants, in-class students can also see remote participants, and everyone can talk to and hear everyone else.

Senior College at Belfast organizers and volunteers are excited to be well-equipped to handle the future needs of any type of course!
