March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize the countless women who have shaped our businesses, institutions, and community. Here in San Leandro, women have long played a vital role in the success of the Chamber of Commerce—serving as business owners, community leaders, board members, volunteers, and champions for local economic growth.

In our Chamber archives, historic photos capture the presence and influence of women who helped build the organization and strengthen the local business community over the decades. Their leadership helped ensure the Chamber remained a place where businesses could connect, collaborate, and advocate for a thriving San Leandro.

Today, that legacy continues through the many women who lead and participate in Chamber programs, committees, and events. Their leadership reflects the Chamber’s ongoing role as a catalyst for business growth, a convener for leaders and influencers, and a champion for a stronger community.

As we honor Women’s History Month, we celebrate the women—past and present—whose leadership, vision, and dedication continue to shape San Leandro’s business community.

Job Fair

Have open positions you’re looking to fill? We can help!

Our Spring Job Fair is coming up, and it’s the perfect opportunity to connect with motivated, local job seekers who are ready to work.

Showcase your company, meet qualified candidates face-to-face, and build your talent pipeline — all in one place.

Helping Young People Enter the Workforce

For many young people, applying for a job can feel unfamiliar and intimidating. Learning how to write a résumé, complete an application, and prepare for an interview gives them the tools they need to take that important first step into the workforce.

When businesses and community organizations support workforce preparation for youth, they also help build a stronger pipeline of future employees. Young workers gain exposure to different industries, understand workplace expectations, and begin exploring potential career paths.

Supporting youth employment readiness benefits the entire community. Businesses gain motivated entry-level workers, young people gain valuable life skills, and our local economy grows stronger with the next generation of talent.

We encourage our community to help spread the word by sharing the workshop flyer and encouraging young people to sign up. By connecting youth with these opportunities, we can help them take their first steps toward meaningful work and future career success.

City Decisions Will Affect Your Business—Make Your Voice Heard

Decisions made by local governments can influence regulations, taxes, infrastructure, workforce development, and the overall business climate.

This year’s local election cycle in San Leandro could bring significant changes to city leadership. Voters will elect a mayor and representatives for City Council Districts 1, 3, and 5, along with a District 2 seat due to the early departure of former Councilmember Azevedo. These decisions will help set the city’s priorities for years to come.

In addition to leadership races, the City Council is exploring potential revenue measures for the November 2026 ballot. While no measure has yet been finalized, the ideas under consideration include:

  • Business license tax reform – the City is exploring updating the business license tax structure to generate revenue for city services; if placed on the ballot as a general tax, it would require a simple majority of votes to pass.
  • Parcel tax – a flat annual charge per property, which would be considered a special tax and require two‑thirds voter approval.
  • Vacancy tax – levied on long‑term vacant properties to encourage occupancy and generate revenue, requiring a simple majority to pass.

These measures could directly affect local businesses and the broader economy, so it is important for the business community to stay informed and engaged. Even if you are a business owner or your employees do not live within city limits, these decisions can still affect you.

Your Chamber will continue to provide updates as the election cycle develops, and the San Leandro Chamber Political Action Committee will meet to discuss its direction and ensure the business community’s voice is part of shaping the city’s future.
