Workshop Overview
3D printing is widely known as a powerful resource for concepting and prototyping in the product development process. Many manufacturing and product-based companies run in-house FDM or desktop machines for that purpose. However, recent advancements in additive manufacturing are changing the game and upping the stakes! Companies can now use additive for volume production, vastly increasing their speed to market and agility to innovate.
Don't get left behind! This workshop will help you identify ways to change your business, save costs, and create new opportunities through the adoption of additive manufacturing. From incremental shifts to transformational changes, our goal is to help you tap into the design freedom, speed, agility, and quality that today's additive manufacturing technologies offer.
| |
Workshop Agenda
1. Exploring the Latest Technology & Material Options
Carl Douglass, CEO of DI Labs, will start by providing an overview of the additive manufacturing landscape so you can understand what's possible and where things are headed with the latest technology and materials advancements. This overview will provide a solid foundation as you encounter future challenges that can benefit from additive manufacturing. This is also a great time to ask questions about materials, technologies, and any other additive manufacturing-related topics to gain insights into potential solutions for challenges you may encounter.
2. Application Examples: From Incremental to Transformational Innovation
Carl Douglass will share additive manufacturing applications from all product life cycle stages to demonstrate the wide variety of ways additive can support your processes and spark your imagination. This segment will highlight how to apply additive manufacturing's strengths to generate unique solutions, saving time and cost and improving results.
3. Uncovering Pain & Opportunities in a Solutionology Session
Brian Douglass, COO of DI Labs and Carl Douglass will lead an interactive Solutionology Session (a problem-solving discovery process) designed to uncover pains you may be experiencing and opportunities you may see through the adoption of additive manufacturing.
The Solutionology Session will help you:

- Apply additive manufacturing capabilities for unique solution development
- Create connections with fellow workshop attendees

Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) | |
Economic Development and Chamber Professionals,
Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) hosted five listening sessions in early July regarding the Department of Human Services draft licensing standards through the Child Care Regulation Modernization Projects. More than 150 child care providers, directors, economic development professionals, employers, parents, and community leaders attended these sessions to voice their concerns and recommendations. Cheryl Glaeser of Achieve TFC, LLC. facilitated the sessions and developed a summary report in partnership with SWIF to highlight the key challenges noted in the listening sessions and recommended changes to the standards.
The report is aimed to inform readers of the regional response and recommendations for DHS to develop a balanced and practical regulatory framework that prioritizes both child safety and the operational realities of child care programs. DHS is currently revising the standards, which will be included in the legislative proposal for consideration at the 2025 session. SWIF remains committed to improving access to quality, affordable child care in southwest Minnesota and has shared the report with southwest legislators and DHS urging the agency to continue engaging with the child care community to ensure the final standards reflect a comprehensive understanding of the diverse needs and realities faced by providers.

Ways to engage:
If you have any questions about child care initiatives at SWIF or the listening sessions, please contact me or Briana Mumme at brianam@swifoundation.org or (320) 583-5025.
