QUESTION: WHAT’S THE BEST PRODUCT TO WASH MY BOAT, INSIDE AND OUT?

ANSWER: We get this question all the time, and the truth is — there are a lot of great products out there. What’s just as important as knowing what to use is knowing what not to use.

One common mistake is using Dawn dish soap. While it’s great at cutting grease and even saves baby ducks, it’s not safe for marine environments. The same formula that breaks down oil can harm aquatic life — the soap molecules bind with grease and sink, where fish may ingest them and become poisoned.

Also, be cautious with mildew removers that contain bleach. Combined with sun exposure, bleach can damage vinyl upholstery over time. For a safer alternative, we recommend Xanigo products — they’re effective, less harsh, and safer for your interior surfaces. Just remember: all mildew removers must be thoroughly rinsed after use.

The bottom line: stick with marine-grade, environmentally friendly cleaners, follow directions carefully, and don’t underestimate the power of good technique and a little elbow grease!

SKIFF REVIVAL: BREATHING NEW LIFE
INTO A BACKYARD CLASSIC

This month, we had the privilege of helping a customer turn a long-held dream into reality. After years of sitting quietly in her yard, this small skiff—full of sentimental value—finally began its journey back to the water.

When it arrived at our facility, the boat was a bare hull. No engine, no steering, no electrical systems—just a freshly glassed and painted shell with potential waiting to be unlocked.

Our service team installed a brand-new Yamaha 50hp outboard and ran all-new controls and steering. We wired in a battery with a switch, added a new bilge pump and through-hull fitting, and outfitted the skiff with navigation lights for safe travels. A new helm and wheel completed the functional transformation.

Stay tuned for Part Two, where we’ll add the finishing touches: a custom windshield, grab handles for the console, and a GPS to guide the next chapter of this classic boat’s story.
