THE VISIONARY FOUNDERS OF CTI
Robert B. Meyner
A gifted orator who is said to have given 18 speeches in 12 hours, Robert B. Meyner was born in modest circumstances and worked his way through Lafayette College. After graduating from Columbia University Law School (1933), he was a successful trial lawyer in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. He served as a naval officer during World War II, reaching the rank of lieutenant commander. Involvement in civic and social affairs led to running for office and he was elected Governor of New Jersey in 1953 and again in 1957 - the year he married Helen Day Stevenson, a member of the House of Representatives (1975-1979). The Saturday Evening Post described him as "The Glamorous Governor."
