Dear Friends,
As a mother approaching Mother’s Day and working in global health, it is hard not to think about the state of maternal health around the world. According to the CDC, approximately 800 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, and 99% of those deaths occur in resource-scarce countries. All women in every country deserve easy access to the highest quality health care, and at HVO we believe that providing education and support to local health professionals is essential to achieving this goal. I am proud of everyone in our HVO community who has dedicated their efforts to improving care for women and mothers in the countries we serve. If you are interested, you can learn more about HVO’s obstetrics and gynecology projects on our website here.
For those of you who may not have yet had the chance, please read our latest edition of the Volunteer Connection to learn more about our evolving hybrid program model and recent program activities. We have a lot to look forward to!
Sincerely,
April
April Pinner, MSPH, RD
