Hello Fitness Friends,

We're well into the Spring season and halfway through our Summer Fitness Challenge! Is your mindset where it needs to be? Please join us if you still haven't and set your own personal goal for May.

Be careful what you say and think... your body is listening. The mind is your most powerful tool, but if you don't rule it, it will rule you. Fortunately, you can train your mind to be your greatest asset. Just like you train your body, you must invest the time into training your mind as well. If you are flooded with negative self talk, this will inevitably influence your behavior. A negative mind will never give you a positive life. Thus, you must be diligent and take care of your most precious asset. If you are not, mediocrity lurks right beneath the surface. Mediocrity is "a region bound on the north by compromise, on the south by indecision, on the east by past thinking, and on the west by lack of vision."

But you are not here to be mediocre. You are on the path to greatness. Here are some things to reflect upon that will keep you on the path to success.
  1. Know your why . Knowing your motives and what drives you will help you develop vision. This vision paves the way for action. " When your why is big enough, you will find your how."
  2. Be known for your  persistence . One person with persistence can accomplish more than a thousand people with interest alone. "By perseverance the snail reached the ark."
  3. Don't let worry direct your life . Worry is allowing fear to triumph over what you believe. It gives a small thing a big shadow. Fear and worry are interest paid in advance on something you may never own. If you are viewing your future from a position of fear, that view needs to be redirected. "When things are good why worry? When things are bad why worry?"
  4. Sometimes you must take the path of most resistance. Sometimes opportunities are missed because they're dressed in overalls and disguised as work. Shortcuts often lead you on a path to nowhere, so be cautious of things that seem too good to be true. "If you keep your attention on learning the tricks of the trade, you will never learn the trade."

There is certainly no shortage of wise sayings and meditations that we should reflect upon. Whatever those may be though, commit yourself to training your mind daily. A runner preparing for a marathon is not going to wait one day before the event to start training. Rather, they train year round preparing their bodies to handle the demands of the sport. So it is with the mind. Be the whole person you can be. Your mind matters. See you out on the fitness floor!

Jr. Tennis Summer Program
Summer is just around the corner and our Jr. Summer Tennis Program is fast approaching,
beginning   Monday, June 11.  Our program offers something for all ages and levels of play,
from a new to the game 5 year old looking to learn the fundamentals - to a competitive
high school player eager to improve and climb their high school tennis ladder.
We offer an eight week program that is sure to exceed your child's expectations, jam packed with fundamental development a nd positive excelling in any given area of their game. While players proceed to improve, they will also have a memorable experience here at Rollingwood. Offering both season rates and weekly rates, we get our fair share of novice, intermediate, and advanced students who participate in our programs. For more questions or information please visit us at

Junior Tennis Success:
A great showing from the Arendt brothers, two boys from our junior tennis program. They have been putting in the work and bringing home the hardware. Landon and Chance gave their best efforts while elevating their play during the last two weeks of April, beating multiple opponents and winning their tournaments.

Landon, age 12, won the SATA Rocklin Thunder Invitational in the boys 14 and under division, beating Richard Yang in a third set 10 point tie breaker, 10-6. Chance, who is 15 and plays for Bella Vista High School, went undefeated at the CVC League Tournament hosted here at Rollingwood. Chance battled through tough matches and fought his way back, winning his finals
match against Denardo Wilson 6-4, 7-5.

Not only did both boys perform well and win, but they did so with great attitudes both on and off the court, and we are very proud of them. We are fortunate to have them training here at RAC, with their effort level at 100% whether they are practicing or competing. Keep up the good work gentlemen!

Did you know? - by Lynn Alberts
Arthritis is not well understood.
There are more than 100 different types and related conditions. Most common among women, arthritis can affect the heart, eyes, lungs, kidneys, skin and joints. One type, Osteoarthritis, is a common type where the cushioning surface on the ends of the bones wear away leading to bone on bone pain, swelling and stiffness - hurts to move, joints get weak and stiff. We can use heat to create blood flow then add movement to keep the body strong.
Some days will be better than others, this can be due to foods we ate the day before, like too much processed sugar, white flour, salt, fast foods and not enough water.  Get more Omega 3 in your diet- olive oil, chia seeds, avocado oil and coconut oil. Wheat can cause inflammation, so limit your intake of wheat and increase your veggie intake. Get 3 to 4 servings of veggies per day. Add in lots of turmeric, garlic, ginger, black pepper and green tea into your diet to also help reduce inflammation.
