On Resilience

May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States. On May 25 th , the Mensa Foundation, in partnership with SENG, is hosting a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Lin Lim. Doctors Lamis Jabri, Maggie Brown, Scott Barry Kaufman and I will discuss “Cultural and Lifespan Perspectives of

Intelligence and Giftedness” (tickets still available). I am sure that we will come to talk about resilience in that session.

Fortifying Emotional Resilience in Gifted Students

We are drawn to and fascinated by those who defy the odds to attain extraordinary heights, and throughout history, there have been many notable and distinguished people who rise in the face of adversity. As an illustration, consider Ben Carson, a writer and surgeon who rose to prominence via resiliency, and Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, who was raised in poverty before launching his well-known career in the computer business (Isaacson 2011).

SENG in the Community

Ethical Leadership in advancing EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion) across the lifespan is a passion area for Lin Lim. Her team were finalists in the 2024 University of California Ethics Summit Competition which concluded at the end of April. Lin advocates for ethical leadership practices that harness the power of diverse minds working together as the business model for sustainable success.

Shaunne McKinley did a SENG parent parent presentation about social and emotional needs of gifted learners for Deer Valley's Gifted Showcase in April.  

On May 14th, SENG Directors Gayle Bentley and Dr. Lin Lim presented an interactive session around the importance of leveraging picture books to build strong positive relationships and discuss tricky topics with young children. This session was part of our “SENGAuthors” series, and was moderated by another SENG Director, Lisa Sticca-Conrad.

Adam Laningham, the president of SENG, gave a virtual presentation in Brazil on May 18th!
