May 2023

Things are heating up, and I am not talking about the weather. We are working on setting up a wonderful traveling league for our members this summer.

Thanks to Debbie Shepard for making the calls and putting in the extra effort and time to make this happen.

All the members of the board are also working “overtime” to put together a full, fun calendar for our membership.

Be sure to bookmark the calendar so you don’t miss out!

Summer Leagues - Starting in May

Our roaming Summer League play starts in May with our first play on Thursday 5/4 @ Glen Eagle Golf & Country Club in Naples. We'll be playing Cypress Woods on Thursday 5/11 and the Tuesday league begins 5/16 also at Cypress Woods.

As a reminder, summer leagues play different courses throughout the summer in Collier County and in Lee County from Daniels Parkway and south. Many thanks to our Volunteer League Coordinators: Judy Freiberg, Debbie Sheperd, and Suzi Ward. We look forward to seeing you at some exceptional courses throughout the summer months.

Please note that we will send one email each week announcing all league play for that week. Members need to take note of the Registration Open/Close windows for each event and sign up as registration opens.  Watch for further updates on the LPGA Amateurs SWFL Event Calendar.

Additional Summer Play Options!

In addition to SWFL LPGA Amateurs League play, you may wish to setup your own side groups at some of the private and semi-private course that become available for play during the summer months.

Some clubs will require a GolfPass card - go here to: Purchase GolfPass Card; view participating Golfpass Courses - note it is an evolving list, updated all summer.

If you'd like to work on your tournament playing skills, check out the FSGA One-Day Events. The FSGA conducts approximately 200 One-Day events throughout the state. Players are flighted by age and then play off their handicap.

There is an optional Gross and Senior Gross division for Men, while Women compete for both Gross & Net Prizes. One-Days are open to men and women who have a GHIN handicap in Florida. Fun golf on great courses is the focus of the One-Days; the competition is secondary.

Rule of the Month:

GHIN + Handicap Index

Our chapter offers an easy way to sign up for a GHIN #.
Every member should have a GHIN # and post ll scores to establish a Handicap Index.
Please note that going forward, while any chapter member may play in a monthly event, only members with a VERIFIABLE GHIN # and Handicap Index will be allowed to compete for awards.

To get your # please contact Kerstin Koenig

Volunteers - Apply Here!

It's time to start thinking about Summer Leagues. We have people lined up to handle the registration setup and all the 'systems' work. But, we have a need for a few folks who would be willing to contact courses and request play dates.

We have an extensive list of courses and their contact info so if you'd be willing to help in this area, please reach out to Michelle Riordan @ [email protected].

First

Tee

Jitters

A golfer who fears the opening shot will switch to a defensive mind-set, contemplating the worst that can happen.

For beginners, that might be missing the ball. For experienced golfers, it might be hooking it out of bounds. Even someone as accomplished as Tiger Woods has notoriously struggled to get the opening tee shot in play.

To give yourself a better chance of success, you have to embrace the excitement positively. If you were looking forward to playing all week, now is the time to show it.

Don't view the first tee shot as something that can go wrong. Look at it as a chance to do something you really want.

Important SWFL Chapter Reminders!

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation received before event registration close date: Refund, less $10 admin fee

Cancellation received after event registration close date:    Non-refundable

Chapter Event Cancellation:  Full refund/credit issued

Please note that we closely track Tropical Weather and league coordinators work closely with the courses to determine if a golf event should be cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather. The determination will be made & communicated the day prior to the event and if cancelled, you will be issued a 100% refund or a credit for the rescheduled round.

We do not typically cancel for general rain forecasts because in Florida it may or may not impact the course being played.  If you have rain / weather concerns, call the Pro Shop for course conditions but note that for a 100% refund, golf event cancellation must be made by the event coordinator.

*Request for Cancellation should be sent to the league/fun play event coordinator *
