This year's Annual Meeting, held on May 7 highlighted another successful year for WIF. Attendees filed in to the UNC Center City campus, filling the room with excitement surrounding the announcement of the 2018 grantees. Through WIF's collective impact, five local nonprofits were granted $455,000.
The 2018 Grantees:
Arts & Culture: Goodyear Arts, received $100,000 to support its mission to provide paid studio residencies for local Charlotte artists and free-and-public arts events to engage new and more diverse audiences and allow broader access to arts.
Education: MeckEd, received $100,000 to expand its Career Pathways program. The program addresses the increasing college and career readiness gaps facing the most vulnerable student populations by providing social navigation services and work-based learning opportunities.
Environment: Conservation Trust of North Carolina, received $85,000 for its North Carolina Youth Conservation Corps (NCYCC) program. The NCYCC uses the natural world as a platform to teach young people environmental stewardship, job and life skills, leadership, community service, and personal responsibility.
Health: Hope Haven, received $100,000 to support its On-Site Medical Clinic. The grant will allow the on-site Nurse practitioner to better respond to medical emergencies on-site, decreasing response time and reducing the number of Emergency Room visits by patients.
Human Services: The Center for Community Transitions, received $70,000 for its Families Doing Time Program. The program serves to reduce inter-generational incarceration, improve parental engagement, and help children/families achieve self-sufficiency.
The evening also highlighted our inaugural Spark Initiative Grant, $50,000 to Tutor Charlotte, a partnership between Read Charlotte and the United Way.
