COVID-19 PPP UPDATE
Chairman & CEO Charlie Crawford quoted in The Philadelphia Inquirer
Charlie Crawford , Chairman & CEO of Hyperion Bank, shared his expert insight with Inquirer financial reporters Erin Arvedlund and Andrew Seidman in their story, "What small business owners need to apply for the SBA's Paycheck Protection Program" (A pril 6, 2020, page C1).

The SBA Paycheck Protection Program known as PPP is a government funded, unsecured, no-guarantee loan program to help businesses with up to 500 employees, as well as sole proprietors and independent contractors, access economic relief funds that might help them ride out the storm created by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Intended largely to support payroll and other business expenditures so that companies can keep their staff employed, loans are for a maximum of two years at an interest rate of 1.00%. PPP loans are often forgivable for businesses that meet the lending criteria.

PPP was launched on April 3 and later paused due to depleted funding until April 27, when approved SBA lenders such as Hyperion Bank were authorized to resume accepting loan applications. As Charlie had predicted in the Inquirer story, "It's first come, first served, so the demand will be huge."

Hyperion Bank has been working to meet that demand by helping many of our business customers apply for a PPP loan up to $10 million. As Charlie noted in The Philadelphia Inquirer, "Turnaround time will be much quicker than normal SBA loan time. All that needs to be done is verify it's been a business in business, then payroll verification."
Do you need a PPP loan?
If you are wondering whether to apply for a PPP loan, first download the following two SBA documents to help you calculate your maximum loan amount and gather the necessary documentation to complete your application. Our experienced lenders in Philadelphia and Atlanta can answer your questions and help you apply for your loan. Please note that June 30, 2020 is the last day to submit an application for a PPP loan.

Strong community banking relationships help customers cope during COVID-19 crisis
Kent Levenson ( photo ), Principal of Parkside Equities, relies on his close relationships with Hyperion Bank's Alisha Nasse and Steve Cope to help his Atlanta-based real estate development business and his family manage their banking needs during the global pandemic.

Kent began banking with Alisha and Steve years ago at different financial institutions, and followed them to Hyperion Bank to continue enjoying the high quality, personal service that they provide.

Alisha says,"Over the years, our long relationship with Kent has grown to include many of his professional colleagues and employees, and his near and extended family members. By providing excellent service and adding value, we've had the privilege and pleasure of serving so many people in Kent's network and helping them achieve their personal and financial goals. It's relationships like this that make our jobs so enjoyable."

During these unprecedented times, it's especially important to have strong banking relationships with people who will take care of you personally whenever you need assistance. At his office, which happens to be near Hyperion Bank's Atlanta office, Kent is working hard even in mask and gloves while practicing social distancing. With Hyperion Bank's support, and our easy electronic banking tools, Kent can focus on managing his business and overcoming any obstacles presented by the crisis. He values the hands-on service he receives at Hyperion, and we value his business. This is a great example of community banking at its best!

COVID-19: How to Help Healthcare Workers
Shortages of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and other critical supplies continue to be a challenge, particularly in the metropolitan areas we serve. As we celebrate nurses during National Nurses Week, many people are seeking ways to support these heroes, along with doctors on the frontlines.

One way businesses and individuals can help the medical personnel who are working at great personal risk and sacrifice is to donate medical equipment. Hospitals in both the Atlanta and Philadelphia regions are accepting a wide array of donations. While different hospitals have different requirements, most are accepting new and unopened packages of the following:

  • N95 respirators/face masks
  • Disposable surgical masks
  • Gloves and latex-free gloves
  • Eye protection including face shields and safety goggles
  • Disposable and washable gowns
  • Tyvek coveralls
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Swabs.

If you have equipment to donate, call your local hospital first to ask about drop-off times and locations; some hospitals require an appointment or have designated areas where they are accepting equipment contributions. You can also contact your local public health department to ask where the need is greatest.

Alternatively, you can make donations through MedShare, which works with hospitals in Metro Atlanta. To learn about various donation opportunities in the Philadelphia region, contact the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania.

FINANCIAL DONATIONS

If you don't have access to spare medical equipment, you may wish to make a financial donation to a hospital or a nonprofit that will direct your contribution to those who need it most. These organizations are supporting a broad array of the most vulnerable and first responders during the pandemic:
