Motorcoach Industry Reacts & Responds to
NYC Area Bus Accidents

In response to the September 18th fatal Dahlia Group bus accident in Queens, National and State Bus Associations  met with NYC Council members and other city leaders on October 5th for a round-table discussion in response to recent accidents in the New York City area. 

State associations, including GNJMA, BANY, BANJ were present, as well National Associations American Bus Association (ABA) and United Motorcoach Association (UMA).  Discussions included bus and pedestrian safety, idling, bus routing, and motorcoach parking.  Proper driver training was also a focal point.   We will keep you informed as more information is available.
 
New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission's Martinez Named To Lead the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)

President Donald Trump announced recently that Raymond Martinez, Chief Administrator of the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission, is his choice to lead the FMCSA.  Martinez has previously served as Chief Administrator of New Jersey since 2010.  Additionally, he served as the  New York State Commissioner of Motor Vehicles from 2000 to 2005  and in various White House administrative roles under Reagan and both Bush presidencies.  This position will require Senate confirmation.  Please read more here.
New ELD (Electronic Logging Devices) Presentation by FMCSA

FMCSA hosted a driver-focused presentation on ELD implementation at the Davis Travel Center's annual Driver Appreciation Days event. See a recording of the presentation  Training and Events page here . 

Motor carriers subject to the ELD rule must use either a self-certified and registered ELD or a grandfathered AORBD starting December 18, 2017.  Click here  for a list of self-certified and registered ELDs .
Infanti Collecting Sock Donations for Homeless

Did you know that socks are the #1 most requested clothing item in homeless shelters?  GNJMA member, Infanti Bus and Coach Upholstery, with the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, launched a "Socks on Wheels" campaign on September 22nd.  Members are strongly encouraged to contribute to donate to the cause.  The campaign runs until January 2, 2018.  Kudos to Infanti Bus and Coach Upholstery for their dedication to nonprofit service and the needs of those who are less fortunate!
