Prayer Requests

Services for Janice Browning have been scheduled for June 28. Please continue to pray for Rev. Sandy Browning as he mourns her passing and recovers from the injuries he sustained in the motorcycle accident.

Please join us in praying for retired pastor Dan Kercher. He has just learned that he will need open heart surgery to replace his aortic heart valve. Dan is a past Regional Moderator for Mid-America.

NBA Survey

NBA’s Young Adult Leadership Development program area is undertaking a Research & Design initiative to better understand the presence and experiences of people living with disabilities within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Their goal is to listen, learn, and gather information that can guide future discernment and the design of more accessible, inclusive, and meaningful opportunities—particularly for young adults. They encourage all to complete the survey they developed to help them understand who is present in our denomination and what kinds of barriers or supports exist. Living out God’s Call to Provide Compassion & Care in St. Louis

Imagine hauling 8,000 pounds of fresh food a week through basement windows.

That’s what Isaiah 58 Ministries on the near south side of St. Louis was doing when it was operating from Compton Heights Christian Church’s former building.

But with help from Disciples Church Extension Fund, the non-profit agency will soon be able to meet the needs of low-income individuals in its neighborhood from a facility that’s a better fit for its staff, services—and most importantly—its clients. Read more>

Regional Opportunities

The Christian Church of Mid-America seeks to become an anti-racist, multi-cultural region that is a fully inclusive, transformed church, where racial and cultural differences are seen as assets. Our Reconciliation Ministry’s mission is to nurture the wholeness of the church by dismantling systemic racism and other oppressive structures toward becoming a church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality, and passion for justice. This ministry is accomplished through organizing, education, and advocacy.

The ARPRJM team is seeking new members to join in this essential work to help develop and execute programming to meet these goals. They invite clergy and laity with a passion for racial justice to add their voices, ideas, time, and talents to the group that’s led by Associate Regional Minister Rev. Angela Williams. Volunteers will be offered the opportunity to become trained anti-racism course leaders and conduct training sessions periodically throughout the Region and online. Please contact Rev. Williams for more information or to volunteer.

Do you have human resource, managerial, or personnel experience? Do you think it’s important that our Region has current and thorough personnel policies? Do you have ideas about how we can support, challenge, and assess our Regional staff? If you answered “YES” to ANY of these questions, we invite you to serve on our Mid-America Personnel Committee. Their meetings and tasks may be infrequent but are vital and include periodic review/revision of policies, annual performance evaluation, resulting compensation recommendations, and participation in any hiring or termination situations that arise. Both clergy and lay persons with the desire to help create the most positive and productive working environment possible are invited to contact Committee Chairperson Rev. Sharae Kelley to volunteer or get more information.

From the Wider Church

This coming week's Global Ministries prayer request is for the Philippines.

General Minister and President, Rev. Terri Hord Owens, reflects on the ministry priorities, spaces of vitality and vision in our congregations, and our “growing edges” as a church.

This is a special edition of the address that was given at the Spring General Board meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana in April.
