Why I Love the Church
A moment of positive Church life captured

I love the Church because, in so many ways, it’s like family. Let me explain. I’m sitting in the St. Louis Regional office at Affton Christian Church, enjoying the lovely space they generously continue to provide the Region at no charge. I hear the cooking crew down the hall in the fellowship kitchen preparing lunch for the folks in the Fountain Park neighborhood. They do this regularly since Centennial Christian Church has been unable to provide this ministry due to the tornado destruction of their building. This dedicated group is discussing future menus, thoughtfully considering what they’ve done recently and what the people would enjoy. Metal pans and trays are clanging and there is laughter – a lot of laughter! One lady has brought in two huge tubs of beautiful peaches from her backyard tree to add to the bounty and share with all (even me!).
Are there differences of opinion? Sure. Does everybody agree all the time? I can’t imagine. But do they love each other and the people for whom they have gathered to fill a need? Absolutely. And that’s what it’s all about.
Anyone is welcome to email us any time about such an experience or observation of the Church at its welcoming, helping, Christ-like best. We need to seek, recognize, affirm, and emulate such moments as we work towards wholeness in our fragmented world.
