Don't Miss the Spiritual Drum Birthing Retreat in June

This very special event has been planned for June 18-20 at the beautiful Jabez Retreat Center in Mooresville.

The Native American inspired art of drum building is a sacred spiritual practice involving a ceremony where the drum is created with intention as a living, sacred instrument.

Come learn more about this traditional practice and make your own drum if you choose!

This event was originally planned for Disciples Women and registration is open to women exclusively until May 11. At that time, if there is space still available, the invitation will be extended to the men of the Region.

There's Still Time to Get in on This Weekend's Men's Retreat!

Men may still come to the Disciples Men retreat. Please let Regional Minister Paul Koch know ASAP if you'd like to attend. Paul has room for two passengers leaving from Columbia and there are car pools set up from St. Louis.

Reconciliation Grants Awarded

The Reconciliation Ministry is pleased to announce this year’s approved grant recipients:

Arrow Rock Federated Church, the sponsoring congregation of Voices of Arrow Rock, has been awarded funding for this impactful Readers Theatre series. Voices of Arrow Rock has been approved as an ARPR Justice Ministry event because it brings to life underrepresented voices from Arrow Rock, Missouri’s history. Through this production, participants have encountered diverse perspectives that spark meaningful conversations about injustice—both historically and in our present experiences. Many of these stories resonate deeply, opening the door for transparent dialogue and deeper reflection.

Fifth Street Christian Church in Columbia, Missouri, will use its grant to support Juneteenth activities. Last year’s event drew a wide and diverse audience, creating a space where people from all walks of life could learn and grow together. As stated in their application: “With the support of the Anti-Racism/Pro-Reconciliation Justice Ministry, we will host a two-day festival in Columbia, MO, featuring multicultural worship performances, anti-racism workshops, youth engagement activities, fashion, and community resource booths. This initiative will directly address racial division by fostering authentic relationships, dismantling stereotypes, and promoting reconciliation through shared experiences.”

Planning is already underway, and additional information can be found on their website.

Union Avenue Christian Church (Be the Neighbor) continues its commitment to youth engagement through anti-racism service and justice-learning trips. This summer, 90 youth and young adults from six congregations across the country will gather at Union Avenue over four weeks. Participants will learn how to be faithful neighbors who work for anti-racism in their communities through direct service, advocacy, education, and justice-seeking. This experience marks the beginning of their ongoing journey, as they return home equipped to share what they’ve learned and put it into action locally.

ARPR Justice Ministry grants are made possible through the generous support of congregations that give to the Reconciliation Offering. This collective generosity from faith communities across Mid-America fuels our region’s commitment to justice education and reconciliation work. We encourage all congregations to prayerfully consider how they are called to engage in justice-seeking and to apply for a Reconciliation grant to support that work.

Rural Ministry Network

We had a fantastic Rural Ministry Network event at FCC in Mt Vernon this past Saturday, April 25. Thank you Charlie Bahn and the church for hosting and to all the Rural Ministry Network leaders. We were blessed with Managerrie Winston from Disciples Home Mission who came all the way to present the Yaya Connection. We all learned a great deal. Watch for upcoming RMN events in your area!

African American Convocation

Restoration Christian Community Church hosted this past weekend's African American Convocation. Their Pastor Charlie Blackmon is pictured at right. Thanks to the whole congregation for their gracious hospitality. This year's event was extra special as it included the installation of Associate Regional Minister Rev. Angela Williams (pictured below with Associate Regional Minister Rev. David Woodard and Regional Minister Rev. Dr. Paul Koch). Additional thanks to event coordinators Paula Holliday and LeWanda Jackson, and to keynote speaker Rev. La'Vetta Ross. Second CC in Jefferson City will host next year, and Union Avenue CC in St. Louis in 2028.

Changes at FCC in Troy

This past Sunday was very special at First Christian Church in Troy. The congregation bid farewell to their Senior Minister Rev. Dr. Jeff Moore (on right) as he retires from his ministry there. They also celebrated their former Associate Minister Rev. Seth Rash (left) as he now takes the lead. Wishing all the best in this transition!

Our First Online General Assembly

Our new annual General Assembly model provides access to all Disciples to experience our wider church – without the expensive travel, hotels, meals and time commitments. While one can or may need to experience GA at home on their computer, gathering in hubs allows for the same dynamic of being in the plenary hall, meal function, or workshop where folks can visit and exchange thoughts and ideas.

Ideally, noone should have to travel more than an hour to reach a hub congregation. So we need many throughout the Region.

Our confirmed hub/host congregations are currently:

Affton CC - St. Louis metro

Frankford FCC - NE/Hannibal

Macon FCC - North Central MO

Kirksville FCC - Northern MO

We need additional churches to serve and we are especially looking for willing congregations in Mid-Missouri, the Springfield area, Mineral Area, NW, and West Central MO. There is more information about the Assembly, including what is required from host churches, here>

This coming week's Global Ministries prayer request is for Jamaica.

The Big Reveal: Reading & Responding to Revelation

Eden Theological Seminary invites all to this new ministry cohort that will meet online three times this summer.

May 21, June 25, July 23 - (6-7:30 each night)

The group will take a close look at Revelation, the apocalyptic genre, Revelation's reception history, and many of the interpretive moves that various groups make. They'll work to examine this text and its message to determine whether it can inspire us to embrace its final words - The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.

Ministry Cohorts support lifelong learning and are for anyone- authorized clergy, chaplains, Christian educators, lay leaders and anyone interested in the topic.

This cohort is created and facilitated by Rev. Dr. Jeff Moore, pastor of Webster Groves CC and affiliate faculty member at Eden.

Pentecost Offering for New Church

On Pentecost, the Spirit did not stay in one place. It moved outward — across every barrier people believed separated them. In that moment, a new kind of community was born, shaped by courage, generosity, and love. That same Spirit is still moving today.

In a world where many people feel uncertain, divided, or disconnected from one another, the Church is called to be a different kind of presence.

The Pentecost Offering supports New Church Ministry and our Region in nurturing emerging and affiliating faith communities. Your gift helps these communities.

Thanks for keeping in touch!
