Farmer Care Packages.

Erin Medsker of Bethany CC in Barnard shares the story
of one of their
harvest-time traditions.

In previous years, we have gifted around 12-15 Farmer Care Packages to the farmers in/with ties to our congregation, delivered during a special presentation during our church service. This year, aided by some generous donations, we did that and more as we expanded this ministry throughout our community and gifted a total of 35 Farmer Care Packages. Our Farmer Care Packages are delivered during harvest and include the "essentials". Row crop farmers in our area primarily plant corn and soybeans, and many also have cattle, so the snacks in our care packages play on that: HARVEST Snaps, CORN Nuts, Boston Baked BEANS, Sunflower SEEDS and BEEF Jerky. We also include hand warmers, first aid kits, antacids, headache medicine, a travel coffee mug full of coffee-flavored candies, Life Savers, and of course, duct tape (to fix everything else...) Our Youth Group kiddos also make a craft extending our best wishes to be included in each care package. Just a small token to show our appreciation and support during the long, tiring, and often stressful days of harvest in our farming community.

Love Thy Stranger

All are invited to a free Ethics in Society Lecture at Columbia College on Thursday, October 29.

The program is part of The Althea W. and John A. Schiffman Lecture Series. Created by John A. Schiffman in 2000, the Schiffman Lecture Series annually draws noted scholars to the college to lecture on the influence of religion in politics, culture and education, and ethics in society. This year's presentation is "Love Thy Stranger" by Bart Ehrman. Learn more>

Faith in Action: A Survey for Disciples Congregtions

How does your congregation help people grow as followers of Jesus? Faith in Action is a research study of discipleship in Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations across North America. It explores how churches hold spiritual formation, justice, and leadership together. The survey takes about 8 minutes and is open through Friday, November 20. Congregations of every size and context are welcome, including those without a formal discipleship program. Learn more and find the survey here>
