New Regional Administrative Assistant Jacob Long

Please help us welcome our newest Mid-America staff member, Jacob "Jake" Long! Jake started his orientation and training with us on June 15th and is filling the newly-created part-time contract staff position of Regional Administrative Assistant. His duties will be primarily with our Regional Committee on the Order of Ministry and handling our clergy records. Jake will be working remotely and will generally be available via phone and email Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, though there will be some flexibility in those times. He will use the existing phone number (417) 865-0850 and email address sgf@ccmadisciples.org.

The organizational skills, record retention practices, and report preparation tasks that were all a part of his recent work in finance management will serve us well as we maintain ecclesial documentation for our current clergy, and guide new ministers through the ordination or commissioning processes.

We're excited to work with Jake and look forward to him getting to know Disciples all over the Region!

Heat Wave

Our ministry partners at Week of Compassion have been monitoring the heat wave coming through parts of Missouri and they encourage us to check in on vulnerable members and neighbors.

Churches can also request Community Support grants if they are opening as cooling centers or otherwise responding to needs from the heat dome event. Find more information here>

General Assembly Next Week

Our online General Assembly begins next Friday, July 10. There's still time to get registered, confirm your congregational voter status, choose the host congregation site you'll join to watch, and let them know you're coming. Don't miss any of the action! Visit our GA webpage for a list of hosting congregations and lots of other great information!

Congregational voting delegates must be registered and confirmed by Monday, July 6. If you're not a voter, you've got more time, but still get registered and plan to watch at a hub church or at home!

New Church in Mid-America

Mid-America welcomes our newest congregation-in-formation, First Chuukese Christian Church in Monett. They are fortunate to partner with the First Christian Church of Monett and Pastor Bob Simpson in this exciting way to mutually live out the Gospel. This collaboration is strengthened by support from NAPAD, the North American Pacific/Asian Disciples. Welcome to their pastor, Dayson Marar.

Thank You, Pastor Hicks!

Pastor Harold Hicks was honored on Sunday, June 28, following his last worship service at Disciples Christian Church in Nevada. He is pictured here (on left) receiving a book of pictures encompassing his seven years of ministering with the congregation from Steering Committee Chair Larry Rose. Also presented to him was a hand-crafted plaque of appreciation. The congregation extended their gratitude for his service at DCC. Following the presentation the congregation enjoyed food and fellowship during lunch. Pastor Harold is relocating to Arkansas where he will wed his high school sweetheart.

Richland CC Turns 210

The Richland Christian Church is excited to celebrate a remarkable milestone—its 210th Anniversary—on July 26th! The day will begin with a celebration church service at 8:30 a.m. The day will culminate in a special evening of fellowship featuring a delicious dinner and an auction. They warmly invite everyone to join in as they celebrate their rich history, enduring faith, and the many people who have been part of the church family through the generations.

This historic church, which is recognized as the second-oldest church west of the Mississippi River, is also remembering this year how a fire changed their path but didn't dim their faith a century ago.

They hope you will join them as they honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward with hope and gratitude to the future God has in store for Richland Christian Church.

Women Empowering Women August 10

Our Women Empowering Women is just what it says, this group of women has been formed to help, nurture, empower, and give voice to women in ministry and find ways to not only keep women in their many roles of ministry but to also encourage others.

We want to provide a safe place where we can find others that we bond spiritually with from across the miles, women we might not otherwise have had the opportunity to connect with.

Bring to Willow Street CC in Hannibal a desire to make connections with women in all aspects of ministry, making spiritual relationships, sharing wisdom to empower women across our region, now and in the future. Learn more>
