Sojourners CC Becomes Certified Wildlife Habitat

The congregations of Sojourners Christian Church and Peace Lutheran Church recently celebrated their status as a Certified Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation. The certification recognizes a number of practices that protect the wildlife on the 11+acre church property. Practices include protection of native plant life, clean water, food and shelter for animal life, and sustainable practices that help to manage the habitat. A celebration on June 20 provided opportunity to educate attendees on the process for certification, a brief service of dedication, and a game to increase knowledge about three wildlife species on the property.

The certification process was guided by Sojourners' Green Team chairperson, Cyndi Cogbill, who is also a certified naturalist educator. Congregations interested in pursuing certification may find information here.

Mental Health First Aid Training This Saturday

Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to learn more about recognizing mental health crises and knowing how to manage them. This training is for anyone who wants to be more equipped to care for themselves and others. The session would be especially helpful for pastors and is a great continuing education course. Registration closes at 5:00 today. Led by our own Rev. Edvonia Scott, the training is online 9-4 and costs $64. Learn more and register here>

Drum Birthing Retreat

The experience we had at the Jabez Retreat Center with Disciples Women and the beautiful art of Drum Birthing will be long remembered!

Thank you to Orval Noble and Paul Koch for the incredible spiritual gifts, lessons, and blessings we all received!

This grassroots event will prayerfully be experienced again someday. Thank you to all who participated - LeWanda Jackson helped us all get acquainted, Sheila Colley shared a lovely devotion, and Lizzy Wolf brought us together at the table.

Prayer for Justice

God of mercy and truth, strengthen our courage to resist apathy, fear, and injustice. Help us use our voices, our faith, and our actions for the good of our communities. Teach us to stand with those whose dignity is threatened and to build a more just Missouri for all. In Christ’s name, Amen.

This prayer comes from Associate Regional Minister Rev. Angela Williams and was part of her most recent Justice Ministry Newsletter.
