In celebration of Latino Heritage month, the Washburn Principals are hosting an event for Latino parents: "Pan Dulce with the Principals." Our Latino parents are invited to come to Washburn on Tuesday 10/31 from 9:00-10:00am to enjoy some treats and meet with staff. Many Spanish speaking staff will be there as well.

This a chance to get to know other Latino parents, meet the principals, provide feedback about how things are going at Washburn for your student, and ask any questions. We are very proud of the diversity at Washburn and are excited to recognize our important Latino families by providing a time to get together at the school. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday October 31st from 9:00-10:00am!

Washburn's Parent Council is inviting families to join in the upcoming event hosted by Field Regina Northrop Neighborhood group that will  honor the leaders who worked to desegregate Hale & Field. As those are feeder schools to Washburn, it's safe to say we have benefited from their leadership and today know that our diversity is our biggest asset!

In September 1971 Hale and Field Community Schools were paired by the Minneapolis Public School District to provide a demonstration project in quality integrated education.  The success of the pairing can be attributed to the activism of community leaders and parents who believed in desegregating our schools and neighborhood.  Please join us on Thursday, November 9 from 6-8 pm at Field Community School as we recognize these leaders and celebrate the 45th Anniversary of our school's landmark pairing.

This memorable event will feature video interviews with the community leaders who spearheaded the pairing, a panel discussion about past and present barriers to equitable education, guest speakers who helped get the Hale-Field partnership started, and choir and jazz music by current Hale and Field  students.

General Budget Info
In his  letter to the community  this past February, MPS Superintendent Ed Graff outlined the financial challenges faced by our school district. He pledged then and continues to be committed to a structurally balanced budget by the 2019-2020 school year. That means that over this school year and the next school year, MPS needs to make some important decisions about our basic infrastructure so that the programs and services MPS offers don't continue to cost more than we can afford. View Budget Basics.

Budget Survey
MPS is looking for input from our entire community on how to best do that. We hope that the information on these webpages and in the survey you'll find here will answer questions for you, but we also hope it will also stimulate ideas about how you'd like to see MPS move forward. Everything is on the table. We can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results. We look forward to hearing from you - and to making MPS stronger than ever. We need all families to take the survey to fully understand our community's needs and wants. The survey is available in multiple languages.
