Do you need money for college? Come to FAFSA/MN Dream ACT Night on November 28th @  5:00-7:00pm in the CCC! Get assistance with filling out your FAFSA or MN Dream Act Application. YOU MUST BRING ALL REQUIRED FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS! Stop in the CCC to get a list of documents required or if you have questions. See you there!

Washburn Arts Gala
Get your tickets for the Fall Arts Gala on Nov. 18. $40/ticket or buy a table. Online sales open until 11/13 5 p.m. After 11/13 you can still request tickets through the site to be picked up at the Gala. Come help us raise money to keep the amazing arts programs thriving at WHS. Enjoy student performances and art. Mingle and have fun while raising much-needed funds.

Spotlight Musical Auditions 
All students are welcome to audition for the winter musical 'Hairspray'. Set in 1962 Baltimore, plump Tracy Turnblad longs to dance on The Corny Collins Show. Tracy, Motormouth Mabel and others campaign for social change and to integrate the all-white show.

Winter Sports 
Winter sports are starting soon! Any student who plans to participate in a winter sport needs to have all paperwork and fees turned in prior to the first practice. Here are the winter sports:

Baseball Info Meeting
The Washburn Baseball coaches and Boosters will host a Player and Family Information Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6:30pm in the Washburn High School cafeteria for all age groups - including prospective players thinking of trying out for the first time - to talk about opportunities and plans for the 2018 season.
Coaches and members of the Boosters will share important updates about preseason training and spring-season teams.

The Miller Mart Online Store is now open until Nov 19th! This is a great time to buy gifts for the holidays. Remember that the online store is only open a couple times a year so don't miss this opportunity for great Miller swag. Mark you calendars for Washburn's Barnes & Noble book sale on Sat 12/2! All proceeds will benefit our Media Center and add books to our collection to better service students. Teachers have also created some wishlists so you can support them as well with a purchase. 

We are almost ready to kick-off the 2017 annual Washburn Poinsettia sale!   This year the proceeds will go to our Washburn Cares fund to help our own Miller families who find themselves in need during the holiday season and throughout the school year. Purchasing a poinsettia this year will not only be beautiful but also charitable. It's a win-win! 
Poinsettia sales will run from Monday, November 13 -- Friday, November 24. 

Pick up date and time:   Thursday, December 7 from 4:00-6:00pm in room 107.

Give to the Max 2017 is coming! This has become a wonderful Minnesota tradition where a day of giving unites communities. Please consider Washburn High School on Give to the Max day on November 16th. Help us meet our goal of raising $16,000 for EQUITY & ACCESS as we seek to purchase more scientific calculators, books, and guest speakers for social/emotional learning. After School Clubs/Activities
In addition to our Community Ed offerings, Washburn still has our Clubs/Activities that are based on student interest and have Washburn staff advisers. Students can stop by the main office to see a full list of current offerings. 

Scuba Club Meeting

There is an important meeting for the Scuba Club on TUESDAY NEXT WEEK, November 14. It is in the evening at 6 pm in Room 202, Jensen's room. Parents should come!

Science Fair Info Meeting
Do you have a student interested in participating in the 2018 Science Fair? This is a great opportunity that can come in handy when applying to jobs or colleges some day. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, November 14th after school in room 013. Please see Mr. Miller in room 013 if you have any questions. 

MPS is looking for a diverse group of individuals to apply by Nov. 17 to serve on our new Climate & Safety Advisory Committee (CSAC). The charge of this group is to help put practices in place that will ensure each school is safe and welcoming for all staff and students. The committee will include:
  •          2 students
  •          2 parents
  •          2 teachers
  •          2 educational service professionals (ESPs)
  •          2 non-classroom school staff members
  •          2 principals
  •          4 community organization representatives
Applications from prospective committee members will be reviewed by an MPS leadership team and will be notified of acceptance by Nov. 27 . The committee's first meeting will be on the evening of Dec. 4. This committee will meet monthly. Transportation, childcare and interpretation can be provided as needed. View more information here!
