Greetings Marianna!

Happy Mother’s Day! As Mother’s Day approaches this year, I am feeling an immense amount of gratitude for my own journey as a mother to my girls and sweet puppy, Lola. I’m grateful for my own Mom who is always a phone call away, who supplies my team with the most delicious baked goods, and who has shown me how to be a wonderful grandmother.

Speaking of... my older daughter Rebecca recently became a Mom to my adorable (first!) grandson, Sebastian. He was born at 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 20 inches long on April 15th (Tax Day, of all the days!!!)! Our family is overjoyed, and I’d be remiss to not share the news with all of you!

In CURO News, thank you to all who came to our Annual Community Shredding event on May 5th and thank you for your help in supporting Unite for Her. Unite for Her is a non-profit foundation that helps every person with breast and ovarian cancers feel the support of a loving community and have access to comprehensive education, services, and tools that enrich their health and well-being.

With the school year wrapping up and the recent changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), this May newsletter focuses on several college-related topics that should be considered in your long-term planning.

We’re also highlighting a local business, the Strong Mom Project this Mother’s Day Month! Krista Williams is a rockstar and helps Moms to feel like themselves again after bringing their bundles of joy into the world.

Wishing you all a wonderful Mother’s Day and don’t hesitate to reach out with questions about navigating college planning, retirement goals, or for summer travel inspiration!

Until next time, wishing you health, wealth, and happiness.

Navigating SECURE 2.0’s New 529-to-Roth Rollover Opportunity

Families and students worry about funds getting stuck in 529 accounts, discouraging them from fully funding education costs. Section 126 addresses this by allowing penalty-free withdrawals, encouraging more contributions. It's unfair to penalize families who save diligently in 529s if education costs are covered through other means. They should keep their savings intact for retirement.

Financial Aid Myths Debunked

The purpose of financial aid is to help bridge the gap between the cost of attending college and the amount that students and their parents can afford to pay. Insights From Our CIO: Market Thoughts

April 2024

Brad McMillan, Commonwealth’s CIO, recaps April’s market and economic news. Rising interest rates pressured stock and bond prices in April. U.S. markets were down in the low-single digits, marking the first monthly decline for U.S. stocks this year. The combination of faster hiring and still-hot inflation complicated the Fed’s efforts to cut interest rates. But as the economy grows while inflation remains high, will strong fundamentals help support markets in May? Stay tuned to find out, and follow Brad at blog.commonwealth.com/independent-market-observer.

All new, expecting, and even more experienced moms deserve to have a support system that helps them feel their best both mentally and physically. The Strong Mom Project (SMP) focuses on educating moms-to-be on preserving their core and pelvic floor, and setting them up for pain free healing, allowing them to return to any type of exercise they love and feel great doing it.
